+++TEMPUS BELLI+++

*A time of war*

The bio-mechanical serpents slithered around him, consuming the armours, bodies and very souls of the fallen lying strewn around on the ground. They had once been his mechadendrites, but that was ages ago and now they acted with a daemonic intelligence and purpose both with and without his command. Back in the eye he had dabbled in abominable intelligence to rebuild them, a mystic and secretive science with an abundance in danger. He remembered well the warnings in the texts about the Men of Iron, and the danger they possessed. He had been very careful when it came to designing them, and in the end the daemonic possession to them was a boon if anything, since it meant he could construct pacts and sorcery to keep them under his control.

"-Grrraaawrgggh"

The mechanical beast let out a low growl as the serpents began to repair it under his guidance. It had suffered greatly under the assault but was still alive...if you could truly call what it had "life". His own mechanical mount was grazing a short distance away, like a tamed dairy beast of old but instead of grass, it consumed the very essence of the reality around it.

A binary chant on his inter-vox notified him of a gathering of daemon engines that needed direction, and he called over his mount to move out and take charge of them. The Masters of Possession were very good at creating these monstrosities, but to control them they had less...authority...

The damaged machine was repaired enough and would recover in due time, and it happily skittered after him when he moved toward the other machines and towards battle...

At long last, reinforcement has arrived for our beleaguered chaos forces. New models are inbound and the chaos warlords are eagerly awaiting their arrival! What better time to stage a modelling contest amongst the frater? None, I'd say especially with all the goodies that are coming out.

Since I don’t actually play I’m still a little confused on how the detachments work. If everything shares the daemon and the same god key word does that work together? I’ve got a ton of unassembled daemons of various flavors, as well as just picking up greater possessed and a venomcrawler...

Yes and no. All the Daemons can be in the same Detachment, but the Greater Possessed and Venomcrawler need to be in a Space Marine detachment.

The Detachments must all be from the same Codex to be battle-forged, and in the case of Daemons, everything must have the SAME God. IE: Only Khorne in one detachment, only Slaanesh in the other. Stuff like that.

The detachments are:

Patrol:

1-2 HQ, 1-3 Troops, 0-2 Elites/Fast Attack/Heavy Support/Flyers

Battalion:

2-3 HQ, 3-6 Troops,  0-6 Elites/Fast Attack/Heavy Support/Flyers

Brigade

3-5 HQ, 6-12 Troops, 3-8 Elites, 3-5 Fast Attack, 3-5 Heavy Support, 0-2 Flyers

Vanguard:

1-2 HQ, 3-6 Elites, 0-3 Troops, 0-2 Elites/Fast Attack/Flyers

Spearhead

1-2 HQ, 3-6 Heavy Support, 0-3 Troops, 0-2 Elites/Fast Attack/Flyers

Outrider

1-2 HQ, 3-6 Fast Attack, 0-3 Troops, 0-2 Elites/Fast Attack/Flyers

Supreme Command

3-5 HQ, 0-1 Elites, 0-1 Lord of War

Super-Heavy

3-5 Lords of War

Air Wing

3-5 Flyers

Super-Heavy Auxiliary

1 Lord of War

Fortification Network

1-3 Fortifications

The stuff in is the required Battlefield Roles for each detachment. Anything not in bold is optional.

That's not quite how battleforged works.

Basically, to be battleforged, everything in the detachment needs to share a keyword.  Now, in one the FAQs it has said that you can't use CHAOS or IMPERIUM for that keyword, but I don't remember if that's a beta rule, or just for tournaments, or both.  Even if that rule does apply, you can have detachments that have units from multiple codexes that share one of the chaos god/mark keywords - so, for example, you could have a detachment that shares the NURGLE keyword with units from the Deathguard, the Chaos Space Marine and the Chaos Daemons codexes.  For the purposes of this event, you should check with the organizer - the FAQ at the bottom of the rules thread (see http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354417-tempus-belli-is-live/ ) is unclear - it says you can mix codexes across your detachments, but its unclear if they mean within detachments or different detachments with difference codexes.

Now, even if one can mix units from codexes in a detachment, its generally a bad idea as in order to get the <LEGION> benefit, everything has to have that <LEGION> keyword - so if you have codex: daemons units mixed with codex: chaos space marine units, the CSM units can't benefit from any of the benefits of being in any particular legion.  So, in the above example, none of the Codex: Deathguard or Codex: Chaos Space Marine units could take advantage of the LEGION benefits from the DEATHGUARD or any other <LEGION> keyword.

For codex: daemons, you only get your Locus if all units in a detachment are codex: daemons units of a particular god.  So, while you can have mixed detachments (either in the form of which god and/or which codex) you if you field any units that aren't of that god, or aren't of that codex, you lose the locus.   So, you while you could field NURGLE daemons int he same detachment with NURGLE deathguard and NURGLE chaos space marine units, or with KHORNE, SLAANESH and/or TZEENCH deamons, but if you did so you wouldn't get the NURGLE locus.

So, generally, if you want to take units from more than one codex, its generally best to put each codex in separate detachments.

For my event you can mix-n-match though, it's all in the name of chaos! :)

Ok good too know! And thanks for the tips in general, guys. I’ll ask for help organizing detachments in the list building forum if this stuff ever looks like it’s gonna see a table. For now I’ll juat take the motivation to get building!
