Beatnik cryptek
As a rule the annihilation barge is somewhat grandiosely named as it is not particularly effective at annihilating much, but still they can be useful so what do you use them for and how do you use them? Irritation and Control units. They can put a hurt on infantry, especially if you're running mephrit. With fly and quantum shielding they can be used to tie up heavy weapon units, then jump back and shoot. A captain Smash with a D4 hammer looks pretty silly trying to kill a Barge with enhanced quantum shielding on. NTaW
As a BA player as well I can promise a D4 thunder hammer from Cap'n Crunch would only be attacking something with QS in combat if basically everything else is dead or the person doesn't properly understand QS  For irritation and control I'd be more inclined to use Tomb Blades, though truthfully I don't own either unit. Mr4Minutes
It seems to be a decent screen unit. I use it to push ds(gsc shenanigans) further. It’s a small foot print, but helps on the flanks. I also put a gauss on it instead of the additional Tesla. I don’t know if it’s the best use of points, but it’s decent in not extremely competitive games. The lovely thing is that a Barge is allowed to find and charge Captain Smash...I don't sit my units around hoping someone charges it by mistake. Then Cap either has to back out and can't charge or he has to spend CP on wings of fire. It's just a stupid use for an odd unit. GW really didn't think necrons through well in terms of 8th Ed mechanics and it shows when you have to find inventive things to do with subpar units. NTaW
It's allowed to? Huh. I never knew they could move  He won't be hard to find at least. Necrons almost entirely need to be reworked in 8th, which I'm sure they will be once they get featured prominently in a campaign. I agree that we have to be overly inventive in how units are played compared to most other armies. Using Necrons right now feels akin to always playing on hard mode. vigitant
I'm halfway tempted to use annihilation barges as part of screen and AI shooting for a 5 Ctan list. Mostly need something to take models off the board and have wounds in between the characters and incoming shooting. Brother Navaer Solaq
@original poster. barges have been useful in getting infantry off objectives. the idea of charging with it in cc against a heavy weapon team is a good idea, but then again if it is that far up the field how the heck are the troops supporting it? necrons do need a rework, but that is for another topic. i wish the quantam shielding stragtem can be used to modify the roll to 0. it would then give us a better chance to ignore all damages. -_- Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354591-annihilation-barges/#findComment-5285108 Share on other sites
