Well at least they've gotten a cost reduction along with everyone else. Pity it didn't extend to the Elite slot characters. And giving them a Lieutenant or a special Dreadnought or a Lieutenant Dreadnought wouldn't either.

Without wanting to stray too far off topic, the DW should get:

 

A change to their armor rules and/or their toughness, to make them more durable.

New stratagems to allow movement after deepstriking, or a closer than 9" deepstrike. Perhaps when in conjunction with the Ravenwing.

Reduction in points for the Command Squad for the DW.

A lieutenant, similarly to how the RW has the Talonmaster.

Does "Sorcerer" in the datasheet include Sorcerers in Terminator Armor? It could be nice to have a deep striking sorcerer (escorted by deathwing) to strip invul saves from targets using Death Hex.

I think that GW really hated DeathRaven when it became such a popular tactic. They have spent the last several editions pushing Greenwing to the point where the Azrael Castle became our default tactic. The new Bolter rule has made Deathwing a good deepstriking chaff killer, but does not let it be as decisive as it could be if Deathwing could follow up with an assault. Deathwing Knights could benefit by being able to teleport and have a better chance to get into assault. Bringing back teleport homers for Ravenwing and possibly Scouts & Vanguard to bring the charge from 9” to 3-6” would make Assaulting DW Knights devastating and do much with our mixed weapon Deathwing. Right now the only really effective tactic we have is teleport, shoot, die.

I have a hard time figuring out GWs logic when it comes to DW.

 

For a time I figured they had forgotten about the DW as a result of their decision to push Primaris Marines. «Maybe» —I thought— «the DW sucks because they are old sculpts, and GW is waiting for Primaris Terminatorz to give DW something good to do on the board»

 

But, then I figured... If that was so, then why does the RW not suck? They are in the same situation, Primaris-wise.

 

So, now my theory is that whoever is in charge of the Codex simply dislikes the DW, or knows not how to balance them out, hence they have decided to play it safe and make them more or less pointless, over making them too powerful.

 

In any case, I think that the DW won't see anything else this edition. Maybe in 9th, the DW will come back. For now, though, the tactic really is TELEPORT, SHOOT, DIE.

I had match last weekend against a Chaos playing friend and asked him if he would like to play the new Fallen detachment. I could bring my Lord Cypher and some 30k Angels. 

 

He politely refused. He said he wanted to play real Chaos and "not have half of its army Dark Angels".   

 

But he offered to take some of the models as Chosen, so that I have something to hunt.
