SyNidus
No, not blue or green or red...I'm planning to restart my Raven Guard, but i'd like to do something different. The usual spray black and then highlight is boring to look at and tedious to do (imo). So i'm looking for a different way to paint black which is easy and will look good. Another thing which i thought was interesting is the HH era RG. The recon legionnaires look dark black, but have even darker patterns for squad and chapter markings. What do you guys think? Race Bannon
What about a dark grey washed with Nuln Oil? Like VGC German Grey then head-to-toe washed. Heck, you could use bright blue or red for the eye lenses, leadbelcher for weapons/hoses, green for other lenses and wash them too. Tah dah! ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354625-different-rg-paint-schemes/#findComment-5278544 Share on other sites
thewarriorhunter
When I was painting my RG my recipe for black was 50/50 Vallejo Game Color Black and Black Gray. Way that with Nuln Oil and you had a nice black that want flat. I still edge highlighted up from there. Everything else Race said was what I did except with VGC because I have a set of that. I'm on mobile so I suck and linking but there is a link in my signature to my RG PLOG. SyNidus
Go all out and use the white scheme in the marine codex. Rift stalkers I think was the name. Heh, nah. Not my style. I usually play first founding, or nothing at all. I paint my RG - basecoat of black, hvy drybrush of vallejo black Grey, drybrush of mechanicus standard grey, a light drybrush of dawnstone, nuln oil wash- done I might try that, seems simple enough. Got any pics? When I was painting my RG my recipe for black was 50/50 Vallejo Game Color Black and Black Gray. Way that with Nuln Oil and you had a nice black that want flat. I still edge highlighted up from there. Everything else Race said was what I did except with VGC because I have a set of that. Got a pic for that. I'm tempted to paint them Night Lords if i can't get anything that strikes my fancy. Race Bannon
Admittedly, no in 40k form. The scheme came to me on a non-40k project and it worked. So, the timing of the OP allowed me to share. So, if I could have the week to prep, then I could see if the idea works in 40k ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354625-different-rg-paint-schemes/#findComment-5280910 Share on other sites

There's more RG after that before it goes into my custom chapter: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/339466-deployment-of-the-spectral-sicarii-homebrew-rg/?p=4912296 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354625-different-rg-paint-schemes/#findComment-5280965 Share on other sites
jpwyrm
I strongly suggest you take a look at MajorNese's Raptors. He made a tutorial on how he paints them and tried his method for my Deathwatch and it works very well! The method is easy, you can achieve smooth blending in no time. I would suggest using black and a light grey as the two colours to use for the technique, then apply wash(es) as needed to tone down the brightness as you see fit. I'd say this is as close as you can get to airbrush finish without actually using an airbrush.
