CFH Killteam. "Chronicles from Hell"

Alright... I've been sucked in. Played a game of killteam team arena...

Instead of doing thousands of threads on KT. I'm going to make this one thread for all my killteam log. Building, painting, lists, batreps, ideas, etc etc.

First game was my Black templars verses my buddy's new Alpha Legion.

The first mission whatever it was called. Despite it being mostly "space marine paint ball with a climactic pillowfight at the end" I won by VP. He had 8, I had 12.

So my current list is as follows. (forgive the names for now)

1st Knight: Leader, intercessor sgt, bolt rifle, power sword

2nd Knight: combat, Reiver sgt, heavy pistol, ccw

3rd knight: sniper, intercessor Gunner, bolt rifle, auxGL, Auspex

4th knight: demolishing, intercessor Gunner, bolt rifle, auxGL

Neophyte A: scout sgt, chainsword, bolt pistol

Neophyte B: scout, bolter

Neophyte C: scout, bolter

In all fairness, the one match I played I threw everything at the enemy while the 2 bolter neophytes camped 2 objectives and did the "activate engines" for extra VP.

IDK. We were both new, so we probably did everything wrong. Lol.

So. I played a few more games of arena

Ran my imperial guard list against my buddy's tyranids. It did not go well...

I entitled my list "we shouldn't be here sarge" . I had built it with the intention for it to be flexible and sort of "takes all comers" "handles all missions" but also be a bit funny and rediculous.

Don't recall the exact composition but I think it was like this.

1 Sgt powersword plasma pistol (leader)

1 flamer

1 plasmagun

1 grenade launcher (demolition)

1 sniper rifle (sniper)

1 grunt (medic)

1 scion

1 grunt with vox

8 grunts

The opposition "the lurking lurkers" (good job random name generator table. Lol)

1 warrior with swords and a nasty cannon of some sort.

1 hormagaunt

The rest was genestealers

The match was a reenactment of the movie "alien" killed nothing and had 3 models left, cornered and already locked in melee at the end of round 3.

Yikes.

So I fought a rematch against the identical tyranid list. But this time the IG team was called "purge team"

SW Gunner flamer leader

Scion Gunner flamer demo

scion Gunner flamer scout

Scion Gunner flamer veteran

Scion Gunner flamer

Pius Vorn

IG Gunner flamer

SW Gunner flamer

SW Gunner flamer

We purged. Lost 2 good men and annihilated all but one Genestealer and a severely wounded warrior. We also made all the VPs.

After that just for the heck of it we played out heretic astartes lists against each other. My wordbearers vs his alpha legion. It could have gone either way but I put the right pressure in the right places, the dark gods were in my favor and one final mistake by my foe guaranteed I surged ahead with VPs at the end of the 3rd round.

@Canadian_F_H im enjoying your write up on KT:Arena, havemt got my hands on it yet and ive been 50/50 to get it as we have a good group in our little town.

So its worth it for some different KT game to play, as im do like the close 'space hulk' style.

I do love the write up on the guard vs nids, and tthe alien vibe to it

Keep up the reviews on it, and i hope to be adding to this

I recomend the heck out of it!

It's quick and easy to play. I've played more KT:A this year than all other games combined. It has motivated me to build and paint things too! Which is great!

KT in general is an awesome way to test the waters with an army. And the small team size is a less daunting task to build and paint! Fill out a team, build and paint. Fill out the roster, build and paint. Build and paint your "comanders". Soon build and paint your "elites". Build and paint alternates for your roster and elites. And I suspect soon build and paint vehicles! (old old KT you? Could take a rhino or such for special missions)

Step back and realize you've already started a small army.

Played a game last night.

My Kasrkin vs Craftworld eldar.

The enemy had...

a dire avenger exarch leader

A starcannon(?) platform

A ranger

And a bunch of guardians

I brought...

A kasrkin sergeant with powersword and plasma pistols (leader)

2 kasrkin gunners with hotshot volley guns (heavy and sniper)

2 kasrkin gunners with flamers (1 scout)

4 kasrkin with hotshot Lasguns.

It was an interesting match. "hidde. Vault" I think it was called. Not gonna lie, eldar with their move 7 and advancing covers a lot of ground when they get initiative. Which they had turns 1 and 2.

So they entered the central room the first turn and had the starcannon pointed at the opposite door. The had their ranger holding the door closest to then and 2 guardians and their exarch at my closest door. So I tried to jam my guys into the control room to get some kills and achieve "domination" and "high priority targets"

It was a blood bath for both sides. Rending shurikan weapons and star cannons turned my carapace armour into paper, and my hotshot Lasguns and and volley guns with their AP-2 Meant that only the platform and his exarch could even get a save.

At the end of turn 3 we both had to take a break test. We both failed the break test and everybody survivor of both teams ended up shaken. Meaning turn 4 basically didn't happen

We tied with 5vps each and the time breaker condition was to "hold both doors to the center room" which neither of us could have done even if our models were not shaken.

Did a weird KT narrative homebrew match.

I guess we just thought the "killteam:titans" meme was just too funny not to run with.

Yeah I don't know why there isn't a boss fight kind of expansion, a kill team vs tank, demon prince, dreadnaught varieties, xenos monstrus creatures/ constructs etc.

  • 2 weeks later...

we've had a blast playing monster hunting missions with the Ambull from BSF. At T6 and 6+ Wounds it takes 2-3 kill teams actively trying to kill it to go down, After the blighter is dead the objective he drops is what the survivors fight over and try to get to the board edge.

But agreed, I'd kill to see a mission where a team gets to face off against a dreadnought or 2+ teams against a knight isolated from the pack..

2 teams vs an armiger would be doable. The team my armiger faced was a very unoptimized 200 point team. An optimized 200pt team would/could brutalize an armiger. The big advantage a team has when facing an armiger is this. You know exactly what you need to shoot/assault at and with what. All your choices are about getting your shots in and what to try to preserve.

The armiger has all the concerns with what to shoot at or assault each turn, aswell as figuring out how to wittle down your team while avoiding being a wide open target. Every turn for the armiger becomes about how to pick apart your team and reducing incoming damage.
