The Despoiler of Worlds-WIP, Master Of Possession 14/04

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

As I've said in another thread I'm coming back to the loving embrace of Chaos. When I was a kid I had a black legion army, as so many people have said, I was drawn by the Abaddon model. With the return of Abaddon in glorious fashion I have decided to leave my Word bearers at the wayside (I've literally only painted 6 models :whistling: ) and join the cause under the Warmaster.

I'm going to be running a campaign with my friends and I, mostly from the Vigilus book. The idea of the Campaign is for it to be as narrative and fun focused as possible, so my army will reflect that. With some exceptions, this army will be built pretty much from the ground up with the new model range, focusing on Marines and daemon engines. The fluff behind the warband will be similar to the fluff of the Master of Possession who was tasked by Abaddon to take a planet and create daemon engines around Vigilus. My general idea is that the Master of Possession will be the warlord of the warband and is loyal to Abaddon so long as it advances his own power. Abaddon knows this and has sent a loyal lieutenant with the MoP to make sure that he follows through with his task, this will come in the form of a Chaos lord and some khorne bezerkers (as they hate psykers). I haven't come up with a name for the planet or for any of my characters but once I do I'll post some more in here. Hopefully I can take some pictures of the games and do some bat-reps on here.

I have painted 2 test models from black stone fortress (which happily coincided with Grotsmasha's  challenge). After painting them I decided that three coloured highlights on the armour was too much and look almost Tron-ish.

So instead, I have toned down the highlights a little so that they are not as bright. While the light does make the model look a lot brighter than it actually is, I think that these highlights are way better. Also still quite a bit to tidy up.

Sorry that this is such a long post and it's quite ramble-y, but C&C is more than welcome on any of the models or anything else.

Nice models! I look forward to following your progress.

Thanks man! Much appreciated :biggrin.:

I've gotten the majority of him done now, just some touch ups and the base to be done.I think toning down the highlights helped a lot and makes him look way better. Also adding more gold and having less brass has really brightened the model a lot too. C&C very welcome

I agree, the toned down highlights are much better. Looking good! Though, I'm surprised you changed the colour of the trim on the legs - was there a reason for that?

Thanks man, I haven't changed the trim colour on the legs, only the upper plates. I washed the silver of that makes any difference?

What's your paint recipe for you skin tone? It's very good looking!

Thanks dude, it's only rakarth flesh with a layer of thinned agrax then a layer of thinned carroburg crimson around the top of the mask and the chaos symbol

Great work on the champ, he looks suitably menacing!

How did you achieve the gold trim? I'd love to give it a go on my BL boys!

Thanks dude!

I just used Retributor Armour with a nuln oil wash then an agrax wash. Nice and simple, as I wanted this to look good and be easily done :biggrin.:

I've gotten another 2 guys done, C&C is very welcome on these guys.

The campaign that I'm running with my mates is going to be starting soon and I have named my MoP and also warlord: Goulgorn Soulrender, Chief summoner of the Warmaster and a Chaos lord: Khazar the Bloody, Hound of Abaddon. My idea is that Goulgorn is sent to reinforce and take over a new small pathway that has opened up in the Maledictum, ala Vigilus.

Abaddon doesn't trust Goulgorn not to increase his own power and not do what he was tasked to, so he sends Khazar (a loyal lieutenant) and some Bezerkers with him to oversee and make sure that he does his job. Khazar obviously hates Goulgorn as Khorne and psykers don't mesh well. Hopefully I will have some opportunities to have that take effect in game, ie one character leaving the other to die etc. I still need to build a Khorne lord that is scaled well with the normal marines and my Bezerkers (AoS bloodbound)

Looking great - only change I would make would be to get the raised areas of their red loin cloths (or whatever they are called - the fabric between their legs) in a brighter red to provide a bit more contrast to the otherwise dark colours of the model.

Thanks man! That's something I completely forgot to do on both, I'll hopefully rectify that tonight :biggrin.:

The Khorne Lord Khazar the Bloody, Headsman of the Warmaster has been put together. There's still a lot to touch up, like the torso has a giant hole in currently and the wrist joint needs to be worked on as well as where the torso meets the hips. I think I might need to take the belt off and greenstuff the gaps as at the moment, the belt is where his belly button would be.

Any C&C on this guy is much appreciated

Khazar looks great, what parts did you use to make him?

Thanks man! It's mostly an age of sigmar Khorne character, I've forgotten his name, the one with the khorne demon dog and standard bearer. Primaris torso cut down, forgeworld Khârn head, forgeworld power fist and I think the axe is from the AoS varanguard. This was basically what I was going to build for Huron black heart but never got round to it

As I have said in this thread and others, I am running a narrative campaign with my mates which is starting this weekend. I wrote up the rules and wrote some fluff on my warband and the planet itself that we're fighting over to try and see if I could get some of their creative cogs working and get them to get on the narrative hype train. So far they all have an all their fluff is amazing which makes me o glad that they're all on the same/similar wavelength as me and are all similarly excited. Just writing up lore and talking to my friends about this has really inspired me to keep with my pace of painting.

Here are the rules and the fluff that I've written up so far. It's only really meant as a blurb and my idea is to have a write-up of each round and to have really short stories of what happens in these epic moments, ie guardsmen cut down marines in combat etc.

The Great Rift has opened after the 13th crusade destroyed Cadia, splitting the Galaxy in half. Terran imperium has been cut off from some of its greatest allies and the astronomicon has gone dark for the Imperium Nihilus, times are dire for all. Long brutal fights have broken out for control over small pathways that have opened up through the the Rift. Inia Epsilon IX is one such pathway although it is a small pathway, enough to get a few ships through, it is an asset that the Imperium must not lose control of. After a distress signal was sent, the ragged planetary defense force has managed to enlist the help of the Noble Moonrakers and Requisitionist Cohort and the illusive Deathwatch. But others have answered the call and are not there to aid the beleaguered Imperials.

“In the end there will only be darkness and the echoing laughter of the gods”

Abaddon has sent Goulgorn to capture and control the Forgeworlds of Inia Epsilon IX and garrison the rest of the system to take control away from the Imperials. The best way of taking control of a system is of course to turn Mechanicus holy forges into Flesh forges to make a near limitless supply of daemon infused machines. The Warmaster does not trust Goulgorn and sends a loyal lieutenant: Khazar the Bloody to keep an eye on the Master of Possession, making sure that he completes his task.

Rules:

There will be Teams instead of single players so that if you have to drop out, you just ask someone else on your team to play for you.

Currently there are 2 teams, good and bad or Imperium and Chaos.

Each team currently has an Anchor or someone who's down every week and can pick up games for the others.

6 rounds from Vigilus books, 2 weeks per round, 1 game per round

The points are flexible, you and your opponent need to work out what points work for you both.

It's run from the Vigilus book so you get bonus points if you play one of the Vigilus round missions.

Some of the game modes in Vigilus can be a little unbalanced, so it's down to you whether you use that one

Major Wins get 10 Victory Points (VP), minor wins get 5 VP and Losses get 0 VP

Eg, both sides get +5VP if you run the gamemodes listed for this round In this example Major winner gets 15VP and loser gets 5VP, this way losers still get something

You can play extra games if you want to, these will not go towards the team’s overall points score but will go towards your personal one.

If you lose twice in a row against one player, you gain access to a grudge which is worth 1 additional point if you achieve it. The player decides what the grudge is but is encouraged for it to be fluffy depending on the outcome of the games lost, i.e. a player has their warlord smashed down by the enemy warlord for two games so they make a grudge to stay alive or to kill their warlord.

No special characters (The galaxy is a big place), we can look at homebrew as long as it fits narrative and effectively pointed. If it’s broken/too good it won’t be hanging around for long.

Ideally everyone keeps the same warlord throughout, but I know that might be difficult for some people.

Name Characters if you want to, it makes it easier to remember their cool feats. Try to remember or write down cool stuff that happens as I want to do like a Round-up every phase.

Ideally all lists are all comer style lists and specifically geared towards the army you're against, nothing wrong with changing some weapons or units out. Less Power-gaming more Fluff

This is narrative based and aimed at fun, hopefully with having teams we can make it so that if someone has to drop out for a couple of weeks or isn't able to come down as much someone else can pick it up

I've gotten the highlights and the gold colour done on the last 7 marines from Shadowspear, just need to wash and highlight the gold and I have built another ten marines to bump my numbers up. Another 4 marines including another Plasma gun in the CQB squad and another 6 man marine squad. I decided to give the heavy weapons marine a Forge world rocket launcher as I don't really like the other options that came in the kit. Also have finished building a Word Bearers contemptor dreadnought which I will just use as a Helbrute for now I think. I tidied up Khazar's greenstuff and he has come out looking way better in my opinion. I will try to get picture taken of him tonight. C&C very welcome on all of it.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've gotten way more done, pretty much a full squad done and ready to go apart from a few finishing touches. They look way more blue in these pictures than they do in person, which might just be the light. C&C very welcome

Those were my thoughts as well, and I'll be making my flames green to contrast with the purple of my model (emperor's children in heresy colours). :)

Green would go really well with the purple, I'm looking forward to seeing that
