Tyranid Wishlisting

Evil Eye

Recommended Posts

This is basically a thread to post about things you wish Tyranids could have, be they new rules, new units, updates of old models or whatever. We've certainly been treated much kinder this edition than the past three, so who knows, maybe they'll come true!

I've got quite a long list of things I'd like to see made real (mostly model related)...

>A plastic version of the Hierodule. The old FW kit is really cool but is expensive, only comes in two variants and looks rather out of place next to modern Tyranid models (the talons, dorsal spines and tail stand out a lot). A plastic kit bringing the beastie into the modern age would be extremely welcome, and if it was granted more options and a slight rules rework we could have a proper Knight-alike.

>A dedicated model for Old One Eye again, based more on his old 3rd edition model (albeit with modern aesthetics and plastic). Something seems wrong about Old One Eye just being a head for the plastic Carnifex kit.

>An updated Red Terror. The old model is a bit tapeworm-y, is kinda small, and people keep gluing his talons on upside down. Heck, have him redesigned as a super-Mawloc if necessary, I want him relevant again!

>A FW Carnifex that's essentially an update to the classic Screamer Killer, much like the Contemptor Dreadnought was to the classic Dreadnought model, with exclusive biomorphs and a "Carnifex+" statline.

>Bring back Shrikes! I'm converting magnetized wings for them from Plague Drone wings as they are technically still legal via the index, but I wish they were in the codex again.

>Plastic Lictors, with a Deathleaper build option and an alt-build new species that trades out the assassin role for a sort of "spotter" role- like the Pheromone Trail but on steroids.

>Plastic Biovore/Pyrovore dual kit.

>The Parasite of Mortex to make a triumphant return.

>The Dactylis to get updated with the other Epic "slugs" (technically the Malefactor needs an update too but the Maleceptor is kinda close enough I guess?).

>More customization rules specifically intended to allow for conversions/biodiversity with Tyranid armies- so for example, different rules for Tyrants with insect wings vs the regular membranous wings.

>A proper transport organism (remember the Cerebore?).

>The Dominatrix. I don't care if it's plastic or Forge World, I want to see it happen in 40K scale.

>Plastic Biovore/Pyrovore dual kit.

---yep would love it

>A proper transport organism (remember the Cerebore?).

---I would love a flying transport or a tunneling one.

down the road

- I'd like to see a tyranid super organism/s (lovecraftian nightmare) thats an aspect of the hive mind for the local cluster.

I'd like to see GW using some models like this, and merging them with the tyranid design

Plastic hierodules are unlikely, because GW doesn't like to cannibalize their own sales from FW.  They switched a couple of FW models into plastic back around 5th edition (trygon, some IG tanks), but said they wouldn't be doing that anymore.

I think if tyranids did get a plastic superheavy, it would most likely be a dominatrix. Simply because they are still mentioned from time to time in the fluff, but neither GW nor FW have a 40k scaled model for one.  They could invent something entirely new (and quite possibly would as the second half of a dual kit), but I think they would start with the unit they already have a bunch of fluff for.

I can see GW's desire not to step on FW's toes...or at least I could if that kit wasn't so old by now. The thing's from, what, late 3rd/early 4th edition? For real though, I'd settle with an updated FW resin model, even if only to have the Hierodule look more cohesive with modern Tyranid models (I still do kinda want the current models as they do look cool, aesthetic synergy aside).

A Dominatrix would be a very cool addition though. I imagined it as somewhere between the Hierodule and Hierophant in size, admittedly.

I'd say that would be about the right size for one too.  There are already plastic kits that big.  For instance the ork stompa is about the same size as a hierophant.  The hierodules may have seemed big back when they were first released, but not compared to modern models.  They aren't significantly larger than a tervigon/tyrannofex.

I want carnifexes to be scary again. I ran two with old one eye and they just bounced off my buddies space wolves. He was even disappointed as he was a old tyranid player.

What were they equipped with and what did you charge?

Carnifexen aren't great again units with multiple good invulnerables, but then no unit is. Try an enhanced senses 4x devourer fex. 24 shots is nothing to sniff at.

I think we’re quite rich in our unit range as it is. So I wouldn’t ask for a new unit. I would like to see..

- improvements for some of our monsters (the toxicrene, tervigon, harpy, hive crone, malaceptor, haruspex) to make them more viable.

- new models and rules for our named characters like old old one eye, parasite of mortrex, the red terror, the doom of malantai.. perhaps even a unique swarm lord sculpt.. have I missed anyone?

- I’d also like to see an end to dual kits. IMO they cost more ££ because your buying spares to the unit you didn’t want to build
