DeStinyFiSh
A friend of mine asked to play a match using harder lists. We normally don't do tournament level games, but why not. I thought about Knights and maybe add Ad Mech. I could also field my brothers Space Marines, but I dont think this will help a lot. The thing is, I don't want to prox any models. If possible I also want to field my Knights as Taranis (as they are painted), but I am not sure whether this is very competitive then or not. What I have: 1 Lancer 1 Valiant 3 fully magnetized Knight (so Gallant, Crusader, Warden, Errant or Paladin) Everything Ad Mech can field Armigers are not built yet :-/ Since we are only beer and pretzl gamers I am not sure what I can make out of the models I have got. For example I have a Valiant, but no one seems to field him as he is outclassed by the Castellan. So the first idea I have is something like this: ++ Super-Heavy Detachment +6CP (Imperium - Imperial Knights) [80 PL, -1CP, 1498pts] +++ No Force Org Slot +Exalted Court [-1CP]: Exalted Court: 1 Extra Warlord TraitHeirlooms of the Household [-1CP]: Heirlooms of the Household: 1 Extra HeirloomHousehold Choice: House Taranis, Questor Mechanicus+ Lord of War +Knight Crusader [25 PL, 452pts]: Character (Heirloom of the House), Heavy Stubber, Heirloom: Endless Fury, Thermal Cannon. Avenger Gatling Cannon w/ Heavy Flamer: Avenger Gatling Cannon, Heavy FlamerKnight Crusader [25 PL, 1CP, 452pts]: Character (Exalted Court), Heavy Stubber, Heirloom (Taranis): Fury of Mars, Thermal Cannon, Warlord Trait: Cunning Commander. Avenger Gatling Cannon w/ Heavy Flamer: Avenger Gatling Cannon, Heavy FlamerKnight Valiant [30 PL, 594pts]: Character (Knight Lance), Warlord, Warlord Trait: Ion Bulwark. Two Siegebreaker Cannons and Two Shieldbreaker Missiles: 2x Shieldbreaker Missile, 2x Twin Siegebreaker Cannon++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Imperium - Adeptus Mechanicus) [36 PL, 449pts] +++ No Force Org Slot +Forge World Choice: Forge World: Stygies VIII+ HQ +Tech-Priest Dominus [7 PL, 90pts]: Macrostubber, Volkite BlasterTech-Priest Enginseer [3 PL, 30pts]+ Troops +Skitarii Rangers [4 PL, 35pts]: 4x Skitarii Ranger. Ranger Alpha: Galvanic Rifle+ Heavy Support +Onager Dunecrawler [7 PL, 112pts]: Broad Spectrum Data-tether, Cognis Heavy Stubber, Icarus ArrayOnager Dunecrawler [7 PL, 112pts]: Broad Spectrum Data-tether, Cognis Heavy Stubber, Icarus Array++ Total: [116 PL, -1CP, 1947pts] ++Created with BattleScribe My opponent will field Eldar and we are aiming for 2000 points. I expect a lot of flyers. I was also thinking about 2 Gallants and the Lancer, which leaves more points for Ad Mech to deal with the jets? Like so: ++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Imperium - Adeptus Mechanicus) [59 PL, 875pts] +++ No Force Org Slot +Forge World Choice: Forge World: Mars+ HQ +Belisarius Cawl [13 PL, 190pts]Tech-Priest Enginseer [3 PL, 30pts]+ Troops +Skitarii Rangers [4 PL, 35pts]: 4x Skitarii Ranger. Kastelan Robot: Heavy Phosphor Blaster. . Two Heavy Phosphor Blasters: 2x Heavy Phosphor Blaster. Kastelan Robot: Heavy Phosphor Blaster. . Two Heavy Phosphor Blasters: 2x Heavy Phosphor Blaster. sneakybamsen
I might consider downgrading one crusader to a warden and then giving the other a rapidfire battlecannon instead of the thermal cannon and add an Ironstorm missile pod. Thermals are rather specific in that they are only somewhat good against fairly tough opponents, but when having a fairly low number of shots, you will be hurt a lot by the negative modifiers to hit. Against flyers which are t6 or t7 mainly, rapidfire battlecannons should be more stable. You should have more points available this way to use for something punchy or some table control. Alternatively you could just swap gear on one of the crusaders. I would consider going house Raven or Krast if you want a bit more punch. Order of Companions (Raven) is a powerful strat on even a Crusader. Krast can yield Headsmans Mark which will make those flyers die quite a bit faster. Coupled with First Knight to give some rerolls to hit. DeStinyFiSh
Thank you very much. I tend towards Raven. Both, the Trait and the Stratagem seem good against what I think I will be up against. Would you field a Valiant or do you think a third "normal" Knight would perform better? I think the auto hitting flamer after advancing might be able to do some work and maybe I can get a fragile Psyker with the Missile Strat, but an extra Crusader might carry more weight over the course of a game... maybe? jeremy1391
I’d go with your first list but make it house Krast, definitely give one of the crusaders Headsmans Mark and first knight as a warlord trait. Lazy Soldier
I have to say that I have played the valiant many times and thoroughly enjoyed it and he more then held his own. A few reason for this, his flamer is amazing especially if you can take the relic version. The flamer is great against eldar flyers as they are coming to you and ignores all their minus to hit nonsense. The valiant also makes much better us of the 4 melta guns that are strapped to the front of them lol. Plus bombing a valiant into the middle of his army for when it explodes can do some work (I think my record is 42 mortal wounds to a dark eldar army) Plus the harpoon is just fun to see what it can kill especailly if you guys are more casual gamers I am sure you will appreciate the hilarity in the harpoon when it demolishes something. Just my thoughts on the valiant, I do like your first list better though I can understand the want for some ad mech for flyers.
