Best way to arm mutants?

What’s the best way to arm a mob of 50 mutants? Shotguns?

I imagine shotguns are pretty good. I typically give mine lasguns/autorifles and they seldom accomplish much with their crappy BS.

Mutant champs get brutal close combat weapons for free, which is cool. The champ's better weapon skill and extra attacks means they are often the ones managing to score kills.

My squad of 20 mutants with shotguns rarely do much in the shooting phase. But they look cool. :)

I`m just running mine as bare basic stub pistol & close combat weapons :) although that's more down to me running human wave tactics with them than anything else  *apologies if this is a thread necro*
