BL Coming Soon Page Gone

Looks like they're cutting back a month on the Coming Soon section after all, which is pretty disappointing. Perhaps they could use the time to update the Best Sellers list?

Not that I see the point of cutting it back. Amazon already spoils releases months ahead of time, if I'm going to know about them anyway I'd prefer to have an accurate date and release format right away.

This makes no bloody sense, especially considering that Amazon is literally listing books up to the end of the year already, minus direct only releases, obviously. They even took down the individual product pages themselves, just checked my history.

Here's hoping they're not going back to the old, terrible model of not announcing stuff ahead of time, and just can't be arsed to update right now, or the page is due an overhaul...

Or, maybe, and hear me out, this may be a radical thought, not like it'd have any precedence or anything, and it may be uncharitable to BL's web designers or database jokaero.... But maybe they just had no room left on the navbar when they added Warhammer Horror today, and one thing had to go because they obviously don't have a proper web designer (remember how the whole website overhaul for GW/BL/FW worked out with ridiculous bills under the old management?) so who could honestly expect them to know how to rearrange site elements or change css stylesheets...?

....yeah, I hope it's just their general web-based incompetence at play again, rather than a deliberate decision to take down the coming soon section after it has been going so well for ages now and was generally praised and popular....

The web site is rubbish. I emailed them awhile ago asking why they didn’t take PayPal and they replied to say the web site was old and couldn’t take PayPal payments. I didn’t think it was overly old, it doesn’t seem that long ago they updated it.

It’s just a rubbish site.

But the coming soon section could be something different. It’s great for us to see months in advance what’s coming but I’m not sure that from a sales perspective it wouldn’t be better to just announce a few days or a week in advance. Impulse buying, particularly limited eds is more exciting when you don’t know about it for 4 months. Most people probably aren’t scouting amazon for future releases.

It's definitely a GW decision on the part of GW. Not only has the Coming section gone from the BL website but from the main GW website as well. This is a backward step IMHO. I like to plan my purchases and don't like them springing releases on me. While I know that it's like herding cats trying to get authors to keep to a publishing schedule (for a multitude of reasons) I still feel this reflects on their back room staff. Probably unfair but that's the way I see it.

Now they will restore both sites, with apologies, and I'll feel like a git (again) ;-)

The BL website has been on the struggle bus for a while now (last six months or so at least).  I was hopeful that the fiasco with Solar War would maybe encourage someone in a higher position of authority to take notice of the embarrassing quality of the website.

If the Coming Soon section's been killed off indefinitely, I'll absolutely be just as furious as all y`all. But for now I'll wait and see, I have a little faith in them for just 1 reason:

They've updated the Bestsellers Page! I never thought I'd see the day.

Email them and ask them. They ar pretty good at replying

Well this was their reply on facebook: The Coming Soon page has been de-activated, and we'll be bringing you all the latest news here on Facebook, in our newsletters and on the Warhammer Community website

Gah…

Great move by BL.  So what is the point to buying direct from GW on that website any longer?

Thank Wulf,

What a confusing and disappointing move.

That sucks. I'll be e-mailing as well, what more can one do right.

After thinking about it a bit more, is it possible that the goal is to close the BL website entirely eventually? Maybe I wasn't wrong and someone did take a look at the website and decide it was too much of a cluster to save.

I suppose they could just roll it into the main GW site, although I wonder where they will put all the files for the ebooks we've purchased.

So translated: we'll still sometimes hear about upcoming releases, but it'll be much more inconsistent, less informative and harder to keep track of. Fantastic.

Ah, Facebook.... In an era where most people abandon Facebook after numerous privacy breaches and disasters (including leaked passwords within the past day, it appears), and the average age of active users has risen significantly past the normal rate, GW will still cling to that social media fossil... That, and Instagram, which incidentally is owned by Facebook these days.

I'm not sure who is maintaining GW's general social media presence these days, but my god, they strike me as morons...

They've updated the Bestsellers Page! I never thought I'd see the day.

Don't want to be overly negative, but the bestsellers page is at least partially - if not mostly - fabricated. The presence of the Khan SE (which has been out for many months) and the Abnett Warmaster SE (which has been out for aeons, is absurdly overpriced, and will never sell out) pretty much confirms that the page is meaningless.

Anyway, overall the removal of the coming soon page is a bit of a step back for GW, but a predictable one. They have been consolidating traffic onto the WHC site for quite a while now, so we had best get used to it.

Certainly, but leaving a portion of the site just sitting there is a whole other kind of bad that I'm glad's been addressed.

I guess Amazon is the new Coming Soon page, but hey, now we've got previews as far as December.
