Dealing with hive guard

I’ve been playing a few games against Tyranids recently and I’m having trouble dealing with hive guard. SMA just makes them too powerful to ignore. But when they’re screened and hidden, I can’t reach them.

 

So I’m turning to you all for advice. What are your experiences and how do you deal with hive guard?

Takeing out the synapse creatures (which are generally hive tyrants and HQ's that like being near the front) would help as with no synapse they get -1 to hit. Other than that a unit of hellblasters deepstriking in behind them will give them a very bad day

Eliminating synapse is a good point. If I can’t destroy the hive guard, I can at least hurt they’re BS. (So long as they’re not shooting the closest unit)

What does your list look like and what do you have available to you?

My list is forever changing depending on results. But I’ve got..

Smash captain

Watch captain - multi melta / melta fist

Jump Libby

Primaris Libby

Chaplain dread - melee / heavy flamer

25+ veterans - storm bolters, storm shields / chain swords

15 intercessors

6 frag cannons

5 terminators - mauls / storm bolters

6 bikes

6 aggressors - 3 bolt / 3 flame

3 inceptors - assault bolters

3 ven dreads

Leviathan dreadnought - X2 storm cannon arrays

4 razorbacks - 2 twin Las / 2 twin ass

5 hellblasters

3 custodes shield captains on jet bikes

(I should mention, Ive recently bought the custodes as a possible answer to my dilemma)

Although T5, they are only 4+ and they are pants in combat. For 85 pts an evesor/callidus assasin will not only knock some wounds off with shooting but then give them serious pause for thought  in CC. 6/8 A, BS2+, W on 2+/4+/5+ (depending on weapon) with Ap-1/-3. Or as said above deepstriking hellblaster will ruin their day.
