Bruce Malcom
There is a Forge World by the name of Vector 7. Vector 7 is a newer Forge World, tasked with mass-producing Boltrifles for the amassing Primaris armies. But that Crusade has made the Forge World...a bit mad. You see, this poor Forge World and the Adeptus Mechanicus stationed there had the "Luxury" of supplying FOUR Chapters, all using VEHICLES constantly. This, naturally, was quite the task. Supplying four chapters was hard enough, but when the Indominus Crusade rolled around... Half their stock was made obsolete. They were angry at their positions, and stopped supplying the Chapters. Seeking to find a Chapter willing to use what they were given, they discovered the exact sort of Chapter they needed; the Steel Bolts were a younger chapter but they weren't equipped to make Primaris Space Marines. They had just had a run-in with a traveling Ork Warboss and were defiantly surviving despite mass casualties. The Forge World stepped in and saved them, turning them all into Techmarines. But then, their Skitarii were running low after thwarting the aforementioned Warboss' plan. The Forge World had to make due, and they found a nearby weakened Regiment of Imperial Guard. A quick abduction later, their forces of Servitors and Skitarii were replenished. They had re-absorbed whatever the Imperial Guard had, and created a mock Imperial Guard out of it, the 'Skitarii Regiment' as they called it. Finally, the Forge World did a massive regrouping and re-organization. From the ashes of this 'Mechanicum Imperium' rose...The Vector Royalists! Loyal to the Imperium, their Tech-Priest Chapter Master Wayvard Stelled uses his Astartes strength and his knowledge to run the large Vector Royalists to peak performance. The Vector Royalists have amassed a grand army capable of fighting off sizable Ork and Tyranid invasions, and even Chaos tends to avoid them due to their incredible belief in the Holy Duo; the Emperor and the Ommnisah. They have proven themselves sturdy and bulwark; facing the fiercest foes with a smirk and strong sense of pride. They are a bit too smug for most Imperial forces to enjoy working with them, however, and various Inquisitors have been waiting for the day to declare them Heretics. They also have no Primaris Astartes or any affiliated technology, sticking to tried-and-true classics and ingenuity from within. To them, Cawl has no business tampering with the perfection of the Emperor's Astartes. Therefore, they don't get along with newer or Primaris-filled Chapters or Forge Worlds. Secluded yet allied with the Imperium, despite their inner turmoil about various ideologies the Imperium may have, they are always willing to lend a helping hand to their allies. Recently, Wayvard has ordered that Sisters of Battle be added to the Vector Royalists somehow. Many have tried, but no Sister so far has seemed to want to leave and join the Royalists; although they won't be apposed to repeating what they did to the Regiment. Other requests, such as Stormtroopers and hell, even Inquisitors have proven nigh-impossible, although they were able to make Stormtroopers out of some of the Skitarii Guardsmen. Over all, the Vector Royalists are a strong and unified section of the Imperium spanning three systems and it's all heavily secured but not invulnerable, and their methods and history leave a sour taste in other Imperial Force's mouths. Nevertheless, they will always be willing to help another human in their efforts to spread Imperial (and Royalist) ideals. The Royalists have a lineage structure; the Priest-Master chooses a heir (due to them being Astartes, they can't actually have a normal Heir, unless prior to augmentation...but that be weird because most Astartes Candidates are reeeeaaal young) and they become the next Priest-Master, getting as close as they could to a true Hierarchy and 'Royal bloodline'. Bjorn Firewalker
Your IA is quite ambitious. You should be careful, lest others view this forge world as "Mary Sue-land," which will make them subject it (and you) to same damn jokes Matt Ward was subjected to. Tech-Priest Chapter Master"Tech-Priest" is NOT used as a title. AdMech Tech-Priests are referred to by their rank in the priesthood, e.g., "Magos" or "Archmagos."They also have no Primaris Astartes or any affiliated technology, sticking to tried-and-true classics and ingenuity from within. You previously wrote the forge world manufactures bolt rifles (two words), which IS Primaris technology. Non-Primaris Marines use boltguns (one word). To them, Cawl has no business tampering with the perfection of the Emperor's Astartes. Therefore, they don't get along with newer or Primaris-filled Chapters or Forge Worlds. That's too limiting, in my opinion. See what happened to Darnath Lysander when he rejected the Ultramarines and Blood Angels' aid during the Invasion of Taladorn.Recently, Wayvard has ordered that Sisters of Battle be added to the Vector Royalists somehow. Many have tried, but no Sister so far has seemed to want to leave and join the Royalists; although they won't be apposed to repeating what they did to the Regiment.I believe I have the solution to your forge world's problem. Name: Order of the Trident Homeworld: Poseidon Founder's name: Magos Athena Erectheus History: The Order of the Trident was not founded under the Ministorum's aegis, but under the Adeptus Mechanicus'. It was originally a unit of female Skitarii, raised on the forge world of Poseidon during the Age of Apostasy, given arms and armor similar to the Brides of the Emperor so they may defend the Mechanicus' interests from Goge Vandire's excesses. At the time, the Mechanicus forbid Ministorum Priests setting foot upon its worlds; this law was a source of much conflict between the organizations. After Vandire's fall, Sebastian Thor asked the Mechanicus to repeal this law and restore peace between it and the Ministorum. The Order of the Trident "escorted" Ministorum Priests as they ministered to workers on forge worlds- in truth, to monitor the Priests' actions, restrict their movements, and to censure them if they speak out against the Mechanicus- this initially caused conflicts between the Order of the Trident and the Adepta Sororitas members who served as the Priests' honor guards, but the Sisters reconciled when a Ministorum Priest uncovered a Heretek cell on Poseidon. Eventually, the Ministorum and Mechanicus Orders' beliefs began merging, and the Order of the Trident began to undertake duties traditionally assigned to the Adepta Sororitas, such as providing charity to the poor. Beliefs: The Sisters venerate the Emperor in his guise as the Omnissiah, the "Machine God" the Adeptus Mechanicus worships. They wear the Mechanicus' cogwheel emblem in place of the Aquila. As a Skitarii unit, they do not answer to the Ecclesiarch's authority, but to the Fabricator-General's. I'm sure the Fabricator-General can be persuaded to found a new order of "female Skitarii" on your forge world. Let's go with Fabricator Chapter Master, or something along that lines. (Trying to show that the Chapter and Mechanicus are kinda intwined) I must've done a typo with the Bolt Rifle. I meant Boltgun (because they mass-produced normal Astartes equipment, but then the whole Primaris thing happened and basically all their stock ((the other half was just Plasma and Bolt Ammo)) became obsolete). Poor Darnath. Still, trying to think of weaknesses to negate the 'Mary Sue' nature of this... don't want to be a Matt Ward as you mentioned. Also, the female Skitarii thing could work...but again, I want some conflict between Vector Royalists and Sisters of Battle so it isn't an actual Mary Sue. You know, 'I get along with everyone and all the characters love me!' Want to make it so they don't. One possible explanation is the forge world itself manufactures these weapons, and when the regiment that was to receive these weapons was decimated, the forge world decided to use these products to defend itself, making a deal with the regiment's surviving officers for training on how to use what would be unfamiliar equipment to the Skitarii. Alright, let's go with that. Perhaps the Guard had believed that their superiors weren't coming back and willfully entered the Forge World ranks? Of course, The Fabricator General had other plans, but still. The Astra Millitarium would have a 'abandon service' on their hands, and you know, a really good punishment for disobeying orders is being turned into a Servitor (isn't that one of the worser punishments?) Those ideas seem good! The first one sounds the best to me. Don't want to give everyone a itchy trigger finger for me by defending the Standard Template Construct. The second one sounds good as well... I'll have to do a revamped post soon. Bjorn Firewalker
An idea to justify an Adepta Sororitas presence on an AdMech forge world: Vector 7, a fortress world under the tyranny of the Iron Warriors warlord Rendis, was the final planet liberated in the Iron-hearted Crusade of Saint Hibiki. In the climatic battle, Rendis impaled Saint Hibiki upon his sword; instead of faltering, the saint pulled the traitor's weapon deeper into her own body, so she may fire one last shot into Rendis face, before they both expired. After Vector 7 was cleansed of any and all lingering taint, the Adeptus Mechanicus took custody of the planet, transforming it into a productive forge world. The Ecclesiarchy maintained a strong presence on Vector 7, despite its traditional rivalry with the Mechanicus; sisters from the Order of the Iron Skull, a minor Order Militant of the Adepta Sororitas, serve as honor guards for the mausoleum where the urn housing Saint Hibiki's ashes, and the bolt pistol with which she slew the Iron Warriors warlord, are displayed. Bruce Malcom
Vector 7, a fortress world under the tyranny of the Iron Warriors warlord Rendis, was the final planet liberated in the Iron-hearted Crusade of Saint Hibiki. While the Ecclesiarchy claimed it's lands on the world, the Adeptus Mechanicus started producing weapons and gear for local Adeptus Astartes Chapters. They, however, were spoiled with the efficiency of the Forge World, and wasted countless vehicles and gear. The Forge World could barely take the strain, but the last straw was when the Space Marine Chapters received Primaris upgrades, making more than three-fourths of their stock completely useless. Angry, they left that position just as an Ork Warboss hit the system. His empire slammed right into Vector 7. Luckily, a Guard Regiment stood in their way, stopping about half the invading Orks before falling apart, and the Sisters and Mechanicus could handle the rest. After the invasion, the stranded Guardsmen willfully attempted to join the Adeptus Mechanicus. The Munitorium got real angry about this, and allowed the Guardsmen to join, but not in the good way. Needless to say, the ranks of Servitors and Skitarii was thoroughly refilled. With the Sisters still recovering, the Adeptus Mechanicus decided then was a good time to start rebuilding their connections. They discovered a local Chapter. It was a relatively new one ravaged by the Ork Invasion. They lost the necessary equipment to create Primaris Marines during the war, so the Forge World had a new supplier. Eventually, the 'corporate' takeover finally intertwined the Forge World and Mechanicus to the point of the entire Chapter becoming Techmarines. Slowly but surely, the Forge World Mechanicus required more people to join it's neatly tied together ranks. Secretly wounding and kidnapping Sisters to create Sister Skitarii, the Ecclesiarchy soon became wary of the Adeptus Mechanicus there. Avoiding immediate Ecclesiarchy action, they continued to the point where more than half of the Soroitias were Skitarii. They then stopped, and began suppling the desperate Soroitias weapons and vehicles. Another was brought into the fold. Now controlling a Chapter, some Soroitias, and about a third of a Guard Regiment, the Vector 7 Forge World renamed all assets within the system... The Vector Royalists. The very planet of Vector 7 is a Feudal World as well as Forge World. It's culture springs up from that, borrowing the 'heir' system for the Fabricator General, with a bit of a managed Democracy for the role of Chapter-Master. The Vector Royalists have impressive weaponry, but harbor a personal grudge against Primaris and all associated equipment, due to their misfortune early on. They rely on tried-and-true classics and ingenuity from within. The expansion to three systems occurred during the five-year power vacuum after the Ork Invasion. They quickly asserted control of the systems, restoring order and peace to now-lawless worlds. Interesting stories crept up during these years... They, however, were spoiled with the efficiency of the Forge World, and wasted countless vehicles and gear.I doubt any competent Astartes will be wasteful with his wargear. However, it's all too easy to imagine his superiors- specifically, the High Lords of Terra- being wasteful with his wargear and his very life, as demonstrated during the Abyssal Crusade. The Forge World could barely take the strain, but the last straw was when the Space Marine Chapters received Primaris upgrades, making more than three-fourths of their stock completely useless. Angry, they left that position just as an Ork Warboss hit the system.Clarification required: WHO abandoned WHAT position WHERE? Also, an Ork Waaagh! offers a better "last straw" to justify the forge world's frustrations. Say its Magi regularly accompany the Astartes on campaigns, serving as observers and reporting on the forge world's products' effectiveness, so the forges can quickly receive data on any necessary improvements. Many Chapters- and the Magi accompanying them- notice behavioral patterns in the Orks they fought on [insert date] at [insert locations], indicating a Waaagh! is imminent. The forge world sends requests for aid in defending itself against the predicted Waaagh! but the High Lords of Terra ignore the requests until it's too late; the Chapters the forge world supplies are decimated during a failed attempt to fight off the Orks, who then use looted bolters to attack the forge world itself. No need for the Munitorum to get so edgy. I'm sure a deal can be worked out in which the forge world supplies A equipment to Regiments B, C, and D from Planet E, if Planet E's governor orders Regiment F of its Planetary Defense Forces to be permanently transferred to the forge world, and serve as its defenders.Eventually, the 'corporate' takeover finally intertwined the Forge World and Mechanicus to the point of the entire Chapter becoming Techmarines.Relatively few Marines in a Chapter are Techmarines, for the same reason relatively few soldiers in a real-world army are mechanics: Those with the combined physical and mental strength necessary to be a good mechanic, are rare. If there are a Chapter's worth of Techmarines present, how many non-Techmarines, i.e., "shooters," are there? The Inquisition will surely be concerned about "Lufgt Huron II" if it finds out about this.Secretly wounding and kidnapping Sisters to create Sister Skitarii, the Ecclesiarchy soon became wary of the Adeptus Mechanicus there. Avoiding immediate Ecclesiarchy action, they continued to the point where more than half of the Soroitias were Skitarii.I think it's more trouble than it's worth for the forge world to kidnap Adepta Sororitas members; it's also UNNECESSARY. Most servitors are vat-grown, i.e., products of cloning; the remainder are criminals sentenced to be converted, as a form of punishment. Say Cardinal X ordered the sisters of Order Y to be converted into servitors, as punishment for committing the sin of Z, but the forge world secretly offers the sisters the chance of saving themselves by becoming Skitarii instead... Bjorn Firewalker
Another idea: Vector 7 was caught in a power struggle between competing Ecclesiarchal factions in [insert date], when Cardinal Karl Uckert Wendigo accused the sisters of the Order of the Iron Skull of committing acts of sinful lust in the Cathedral of the Emperor's Justice, and ordered all its members converted into servitors as punishment. The Order of the Iron Skull members stationed at the 61 worlds Saint Hibiki liberated, were outraged, and threatened to launch a crusade against Vector 7, where the sentence was to be carried out. Rumors surfaced in which the Cardinal himself committed acts of lust in the cathedral, and that the sisters stationed there were being punished because they refused to join him in sin; Wendigo then threatened to launch his own crusade against the forge world if it failed to carry out his orders. As Vector 7 provided materiel for various Astartes Chapters, Astra Militarum Regiments, and Skitarii Legions, the High Lords of Terra were forced to intervene, due to potential disruption the forge world's loss would cause. A compromise was reached in which only the Order of the Iron Skull members on the Cardinal's domain of Mardis were to be converted into servitors; those on other planets were to embark on a penitent crusade of the Ecclesiarch's own choosing, as punishment. As the sisters to be converted were delivered in chains to Vector 7, the forge world increased inductment for the Skitarii forces dedicated to its protection, though the Order of the Iron Skull never carried out its threat against Vector 7. Two years later, Cardinal Wendigo named himself Ecclesiarch, forcing the High Lords of Terra to answer this challenge to their authority. The Order of the Iron Skull eagerly obeyed the order to join the crusade to punish the Cardinal, as did female Skitarii from Vector 7. During the battle, rumors surfaced in which the female Skitarii were Order of the Iron Skull members who were supposed to be lobotomized and converted to servitors- honored for their sins instead of being punished- but the forge world's ruling Magi, the Skitarii Legion's Alpha, and the Order's canoness, all deny the rumors. Bjorn Firewalker
As previously stated, relatively few Marines in a Chapter are full Techmarines, as those with the combined physical and mental strength necessary to be a good mechanic, are rare. Here's my idea to reconcile what you want with what you can get: The Steel Bolts are a Salamanders successor; like its progenitor, the Chapter trains all its recruits in the art of blacksmithing, leading outsiders to hold the erroneous view all Steel Bolts members are Techmarines. The Chapter was blooded in [insert campaign], in which the Ultramarines First Captain was given overall command, for his greater experience; but the Steel Bolts withdrew from the campaign after an Ultramarines Honor Guard remarked, "Vulkan's sons will never match our excellence in the art of war, for they are not fully Codex compliant. They are not Guilliman's sons in gene-seed, or in spirit. It is right that they submit to the First Captain's leadership, for they will ever need our guidance," which the Steel Bolts judged an unforgivable insult to them and their Primarch. The Steel Bolts were decimated trying to save Vector 7 from Waaagh! [insert name]. The surviving Marines were forced to resort to guerilla warfare, which the Codex Astartes only offers guidance on how to counter; the books offer no advice on how to conduct guerilla warfare, as Guilliman failed to anticipate a Chapter being forced to fight on after the losses the Steel Bolts suffered. As the Waaagh! crashed upon the forge world's defenses like a wave upon the shore, the Steel Bolts shared the belief they wouldn't have suffered such heavy losses if they resorted to guerilla warfare at the very start. As they are of the 26th Founding, the Steel Bolts are among the last Chapters scheduled to receive Primaris reinforcements. Lord Regent Guilliman was disappointed when the Steel Bolts Chapter Master sent the following message: "We reject your offer of Primaris reinforcements, bolt rifles, and sets of Mark X power armor. We have no need of inferior arms and armor, as they are meant for inferior Marines using inferior tactics." However, it's all too easy to imagine his superiors- specifically, the High Lords of Terra- being wasteful with his wargear and his very life, as demonstrated during the Abyssal Crusade. The Forge World could barely take the strain, but the last straw was when the Space Marine Chapters received Primaris upgrades, making more than three-fourths of their stock completely useless. Angry, they left that position just as an Ork Warboss hit the system.Clarification required: WHO abandoned WHAT position WHERE?Also, an Ork Waaagh! offers a better "last straw" to justify the forge world's frustrations. The idea about the Sisters being secretly offered the role of Skitarii sounds better than getting kidnapped. That, and maybe they cloned some Sisters to fill out the ranks? The bit about the Munitorium I feel is Grimdark, and the story is kinda lacking in 40k-Grimdarkness...so I'd prefer to keep it the same, but if it conflicts with lore too much, I'll change it. The Techmarines thing I was a bit iffy on. I guess four Companies are Techmarines and everyone else are 'Shooters' meant as muscle for the group. I was also thinking about having a higher number than average amount of Termies due to the fact they're tightly connected to a strong and effective Forge World, but I don't think that's a plausible idea. The idea about the Waaaaagh! is great. To answer your (now irrelevant) question, the Forge World abandoned it's position as Space Marine Supplier just as the Ork Warboss hit. A second, third, and fourth opinion will help you get an idea on what's consistent with the setting, and in-character with its characters. Any lobotomized guardsmen will likely be useless as Skitarii, but the forge world can always use more servitors- even gun servitors. Yeah...more heads together would most likely mean a greater product. Your point about the Guardsmen is probably right. Bjorn Firewalker
Idea: As guardsmen sentenced to become servitors are often sent to Vector 7, the forge world is nicknamed "Guardsman Sematary," after a mythical cemetery where those interred would rise from the dead as Daemonhosts. In Waaagh! [insert name]'s aftermath, the Commissariat sentenced entire regiments to death, for the crime of failing to defend the Imperium; but the Lord Commander Militant of the Astra Militarum, merciful towards those serving under the Aquila, commuted the sentences to lobotomies and conversion into servitors. Meanwhile, the forge world was forced to simultaneously rebuild its manufactories, restore their productivity, and raise new Skitarii legions for its defense; Vector 7 suffered acute manpower shortages, but fortunately, the last problem was swiftly resolved. The Munitorum was alerted to the possibility Vector 7 was inducting into its Skitarii legions those guardsmen sentenced to become servitors- effectively allowing these criminals to dodge their sentences- after Commissar Amanat Khan filed a report claiming he recognized two of the Skitarii Alphas who fought alongside his regiment during the campaign to scour the star system of [insert Waaagh! leader]'s surviving boyz. The Commissariat attempted to investigate this on the Munitorum's behalf, but was ordered to cease "interference in Inquisitorial affairs," as the Skitarii in question were acolytes of Inquistor Cormac Gate, who executed Commissar Khan for attempting to execute those in the Ordo Xenos' service. Timberley
Just to throw my tuppence into the mix via questions: - What line are the Steel Bolts from? I'm guessing Iron Hands, but this does sway their acceptance of the Forge Worlds some what. - Prior to the catastrophe, the FW was supplying vehicles only, yes? - When Skitarii ran low, the FW were reduced to scavenging 'warm meat' (of whatever kind) to fill the ranks? Tim Edit: spelling! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354982-the-vector-royalists/#findComment-5291911 Share on other sites
