Hello B&C - Jolly good show!

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

Just thought I'd drop a little note here to introduce myself, not really played 40K much before, certainly not in the last decade, used to be a WHFB player back in my teens which is a long-time ago.

I've always liked to follow the hobby and B&C has been a lurking location for me for a while, but I'm considering getting involved in 8th Edition 40K so thought I'd setup an account.

I look forward to seeing you around the forum!

I hope you're not related to General Consensus - the commissariat executed him for failure ;) Welcome to the hobby and B&C! If you've got any questions there's a place to ask, but here is also a good place if you have any starting ones.

Are there any armies that appeal to you, or play styles? There's lots of experienced hobbyists who can help whatever you're after :)

Sorry for the delay in responding, got super tied up in stuff this weekend.

Welcome back to The Hobby!

I'm curious, what made you consider getting involved now?  I don't think it was necessarily 1 triggering event, it was probably a collection of factors.  What do you think?

Interesting question and not one I was expecting, you'd be right in that there is a number of factors involved. I played WHFB when I was a teen and really enjoyed it, it was an opportunity to make friends who had similar interests and a hobby that really rewarded your time invested. I drifted away as I got older distracted by video games and the like, fast-forward I'm now 31 with my own child of 4 and another in the oven; so I guess I want to have a hobby for myself, as well as something I can share with my own kids that isn't necessarily technology based, as everything seems to be these days. I want them to develop skills, be creative and social without resorting to playing on a computer.

That and I love the 40K universe - its narrative, it's just an awesome thing to escape too.

I'm so incredibly indecisive when it comes to things like this... I'd describe myself as a narrative driven purist, who also wants to compete - I mean really who wants to watch their army get obliterated?

I'm thinking maybe Imperial G... Astra Militarum, Space Marines although the Primaris thing has got my feathers ruffled for Chapter selection, then again I like a few non-imperial xenos armies as well... it's a slippery slope.

Welcome to the B&C :smile.:

Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome to the B&C, General Principle!

Thank you, pleased to be here!

Most hobbyists don't fall neatly into one category, I'd argue that most sit somewhere in the "middle" - a good game with good models is what we can all agree on being best :)

Guard are in a good spot at the moment, good options in a solid codex and 8th Edition is kind to hordes. Lots of different viable builts and of course if you like tanks there's no better army ;) Marines are in a bit of a funny place as GW decides what to do (or not do?) with them, there's new Primaris stuff coming every so often so could be an idea to wait and see. All depends on what you'd like to do :)

Just this evening I think I've come up with a plan.

I'm thinking of doing an Ultramar Auxilia based Guard army - I've read that they are well trained and equipped and are used for expeditionary missions as well as planetary defence, that way I can build in some Space Marine units that I like the look of and maybe a few supporting Knights from friendly Houses as well.

Hmm... :happy.:
