Fire Golem’s HH log (Thousand Sons)

Recently, I ordered a bunch of bits to start a 30k Thousand Sons army, and I thought I’d start a log here to (hopefully) motivate me to actually get some stuff painted. I wrote up a list on BattleScribe, not really sure how good it is, and I’m open to list suggestions, but it was mostly based on trying to keep it small/elite (less to paint). I don’t ever play really so the list is mostly there to give me the option, and I also wanted to use as much Legion specific stuff as I could. The list is as follows:

So far, I’ve built the Veteran squad, using the rubric kit. I swapped the backpacks and bolters for the MkIV ones, and the heads for the Achean ones. I thought this would be an easy conversion, but I ended up having to swap the hands on the bolters to get them to fit properly to the rubric arms (which was a major PITA). The bolters aren’t glued in yet, to make them easier to paint. I really like the pose of the sergeant. I’m also gonna use the Rubric kit for the Blade Occult, with the resin upgrades.

I’ve also started to build the Tartaros Sekhmet squad, using the plastic Tartaros kit and the Scarab Occult kit. For the Cataphractii squad, I’ll probably use the Forge World kit.

Painting them will take me a while most likely, as my painting speed tends to be extremely slow, if at all. I dunno whether to go for a matte red or a clear red, I like some of the matte recipes I’ve seen and they’ll probably be easier to accomplish, but at some point I’m planning a Siege of Terra loyalist force, and the Blood Angels there will be matte.

So that’s where I am so far!

Looking very good so far!

Wow FW do some lovely looking miniature sculpts, they look beautiful. Looking forward to seeing some in the red!

As for difficulty of build, hopefully things will get easier as you get more of them done. (Think yourself lucky that you're not back in the day, having to green-stuff sculpt Scarabs onto the armour and convert bits in from the Fantasy Khemri range! ;)  )

Small update, especially after so long, but I built my first 5 Sekhmet today. The (possibly?) weird loadout is basically based on the parts I had available.

Once the Contrast stock has sorted itself out, I'm gonna get Blood Angels red and experiment with that a bit, and if I don’t get anywhere with that, they have at least bought Angron Red back out.

Nice! Some good kitbashing there brother!

Many thanks! I’m quite pleased with how they turned out. I was a bit worried they didn’t look ‘special’ enough for Sekhmet (especially because my veterans are very decorated, as they’re based on the Rubric kit) but the actual Sekhmet kit is basically the same deal - special torsos and heads, and the rest is the normal plastic kit.

Exactly, plus remember you’re hopefully going to add some paint to them at some point and that can be a chance to Veteranise (that’s a word right? ;) ) then too.

Yep, good point! I will try to perform the rites of veteranisation (also a word, definitely) with my paintbrush.
