Berzul
So, a good friend of mine wants to enter a local tournament in May. He asked me if we could have a match, so he could try out his list and fine tune it for the tournament. I said, sure! So we met on a 4*4 field filled with ruins, last night. He brought an Emperor's Children Batallion composed of: A Demon Prince, armed with talons amd wings, and with the trait that gives him extra attacks when wounded A sorcerer with warptime A master pf possession 2 vemomcrawlers A greater possessed 3 obliterators 3*10 cultists My list was thw following A Master with storm bolter and macw of redemption with stubborn tenacity A lieutenant with storm bolter and chainsword 3*5 terminators with assault cannons 3 apothecaries A Darkshroud The idea for him was to try the Venomcrawlers and the Obliterators, and use the prince to slash me to shreds. The idea for me was to see how fast he could table me. With lots of 5++, nartheciums, and the -1 bubble. So, we get dawn of war. I deploy everything in a tight formation, on the edge of the board. He deploys the cultist on objectives, and the rest on a group and up front, with the obliterators in deep strike. He seizes the initiative. Turn one he just marches forward, with time warping a venomcrawler in my face, but just manages 2 wounds on the shroud and nothing else. I shoot everything at the venom crawler and bring it to 3 wounds. Then I charge and lose 2 termies to overwatch. I punch it to 1 wound. It kills the rest of the squad. Turn 2, he brings the obliterators in. Combined fire brings the 2 remaiming terminator squads to 4 models each, and take out the shroud. Then the venomcrawler charges. Kills nothing. I kill it. It explodes. The terminator squads lose a model each, and each character takes an average of 2 wounds. I shoot the obliterators with my terminators. Then I charge with one squad. I manage in total 3 wounds on the obliterators. They hit back and bring the squad down to one model. Turn 3, the entire terminators die to smites as the sorcerer, demon prince and master of possession move up. The demon prince then charges, and kills 2 apothecaries, then repositions to lock in the entire rest of the characters. In my turn, i swing and miss all hits. The demon hits back and kills the last apothecary, the lieutenant, and the master. Tables. Final score was 16-1 in objectives. Watch out for them new Venomcrawlers and Obliterators! Those guys are tough and deadly! At -1 to be hit, with 2+/5++ saves, and dedicated apothecaries for each squad, I expected to die turn 5, not turn 3. So, as the meme says, the risk I took was calculated, but boy am I bad at math! Hahahaha! sneakybamsen
Seems to me you were bringing a knife to a gun-fight. Terminators just aren't durable anymore. Unfortunately. I really want them to work, they are so cool. Berzul
Well, yeah. I was seriously underpowered for that fight. But, that was kind of the point. I have a lot of models standing in queue as WIP right now, and most of what I had at hand were my terminators. Plus, I've been really having them stuck in my head past few days. My opponent wanted to try and bash through a list to see how his stratagems and synergies worked, and I figured, ok. What if I grab the terminators, and give them as much support as possible in terms of resisting damage. See how much power it takes for him to table me. As I said, the end result was expected. What I did NOT expect was it to end by turn three. Now, I did fail a lot of saves, one squad got wiped out before its apothecary could heal it a bit, and the others did only manage half their job, failing one heal and making another. Still my idea was to have them last a bit longer. EDIT: I figured, with their T4, W2, 2+/5++ saves, with one Apothecary per squad, and the Shroud, they would survive to the end of the fight. Evidently not. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355210-watch-out-for-the-daemon-engines-a-short-battle-report/#findComment-5294456 Share on other sites
