jester_prince
I'm looking for decent proxies for cultists in an Alpha Legion Kill team, I don't want anything overtly chaos. More like average civies rebeling. Are there any decent third party models I can use. Otherwise I was thinking of using House Orlock necrmounda models if they are compatible and the same scale ect, or maybe a kitbash of things. Anyone have any suggestions? Zephaniah Adriyen
Alpha Legion-aligned Cultists in a Killteam? Alpharius. Everyone is Alpharius. But seriously, Necromunda models look great for cultist duty; I'd pick up one or two (while I don't own any, I do know they're the same scale as normal 40k stuff) and start cutting them apart to make into custom models. Use Cawdor and press-fit Chaos Cultists (either together or cut apart and put together into hybrid models) for something more cult-y, and yeah, Orlock looks good for civilians. Ryltar Thamior
in terms of 'average civilians rebelling' , I'd probably be looking at Neophyte Hybrids with headswaps . To be sure, this can be a *bit* more fiddly than one might think, due to the collars on some of the pressure suits being rather tight and/or with different neck mountings than many older AoS/Fantasy or 40k human kits; but it's a work of moments to fix, for the most part, and they're pretty easy to paint. Further, I'm genuinely surprised with how versatile the kit is once you start tinkering around with different heads, arms, and weapons from elsewhere - I've used some of the neophyte hybrid bodies half a dozen or more times across our various Inq28 projects, and even before any paint leaves the brush, each miniature looks fundamentally distinct. [Also, in terms of your purposes ... neophyte hybrids, they are literally canonically "Imperial" civilians rebelling , so it's a solid start] As applies Orlocks ... yup, don't see why not. They're a bit larger than , say, Cadian guardsmen - but that's partially because of their garmentry, with its padding, shoulder-pauldrons, and big pulp-y coats and such. They're certainly useable in the role, although due to the arms and hands [which are very cool, but are joined and sized rather differently to regular human ones due to their armouring etc.] , you may find it a little difficult to easily convert additional 'basic' troops with weapon swaps etc. . Now, the Imperium is a big place, so what passes for a civilian aestheti on one world may be completely inappropriate for another. So in theory, you could go the old standard route of Empire Flagellants with appropriately 40k weapons sourced from somewehre, if you didn't mind your civilians obviously being barefoot and in rags [the former of which is not un-easily solveable] ;There's also various Cadian - particularly Cadian Command pieces, like the un-armoured torsos - stuff that could work, for a more 'mixed'/'rabble'/'mish-mash' feel. and i think i've seen people do interesting things with Empire/Freeguild Archers and suchlike, as well. Your main issue wther ewould be sourcing or converting the right weapons and such. I do also have to second the suggestion for Delaques - as while they don't really look too 'civilian'-ish, at least in my book ... they really do look *incredibly* Alpha Legion - what with all the silenced weapons, ocular augmetics, snake iconography, throwing-knives, teh lines of X's on their weapons and such ... just general trenchcoat wearing awesome subversion peddlers. Maybe get some and use one or two for ranking cultists or something. But yeah uh, it'll come down rather heavily on what exaclty you decide looks like/is a 'civilian' on whichever sort of world you're talking about. Hope it goes well for you! Subtle Discord
I'm going equal opportunity (to die to small arms and Bolter fire) with my cultists, so I'm using a 50/50 mix of Escher and Orlock miniatures. In my case I want them to have a reasonably well equipped look, but they're still Chaos so they're going to do it with a punk meets heavy metal kinda' vibe. I can also second the suggestion to use GSC Neophytes if you want 'proper' Imperial civilian models; as said, they are exactly that and the models are wonderful to work with, just be ready to add a shim of plastic to the 'neck hole' when you need to lift a head swap up a bit. Elzender
Regarding 3rd party options, I think it would be worthwile to check Anvil Industries: their "Regiments" range is quite extensive as it covers from WWI/II uniforms to modern military and PMCs, but also robed cultists and more "fantasy in space" options as well. Plus, their range is basically designed to be modular, so you can pick and mix as you like to create your preferred look.
