Fair points for breachers

My reasoning is that Assault Squads are more or less that cost for a baseline squad and all they have is +1A (bp + ccw) and 12" move from the jump pack but lose out on the invuln and lower speed due to hardened armor (which helps vs non ap3 or lower templates).

They also get special weapons like melta and grav guns.

In my opinion Breachers just need a more interesting rule set, like a directional 2+ on weapons that don't double their toughness or something like that. The 6++ against shooting just never made sense to me, those shields are huge haha

I wouldn't mind something like a 6++ and -1 strength to any incoming attack (like the Iron Hands) that way they could keep the legion rules as they as when they interact with Breachers and also make IH breachers really, really tough.

I could see the -1 with a 6++, that feels fluffy. With the current ruleset, I have a hard time with the logic that a breacher marine and a marine in MkII armor would be equally permeable to bolter fire and the benefit of the shield only comes into play with higher end weaponry. I would think it should improve resilience against small arms yet fold under larger ordinance. Also I think directionality should be important (like the knight ion shield), it would add for more interesting tactics and improve immersion. That's just my 2cents though.

Oh boy Iron Hands would certainly be spicy though haha

I agree about the directionality, and I'm unfamiliar with how Knight Shields work. Maybe every turn the player has to drop a counter with an arrow pointing in the direction the shield bonus applies? That way plays couldnt just have their squads walk in a circle across the field to negate the penalty. Edit: I'd also really be in favor of the Shield being a 6++ when not in base contact, and improving to a 5++ when in base contact, like the Zone Mortalis Right of War.

To me, that would be the 175 point parity with assault squads.
