2019 survey is live, show your BT support

I did not see a post on here but if you missed it the 2019 GW survey is live.  It is a good chance to provide them with input but also let them know what type of support you want shown for Black Templars.

GW has pointed out the survey input was a major factor in getting the Sisters of Battle rebooted.  I did my part by doing the survey and provided my opinions.  If you have 10 minutes it is a great way to add your opinion to GW's data pool.

Go on over to the warhammer community site to access the survey.

Sisters getting a reboot was because nearly everyone on the planet demanded it.

Templars might not have that level of fanatical devotion.

That said, I still brought up the Templars, though more in the vein of getting support for the Primaris so they can play more loke Templars should.

I threw in my hat for BT and Classic Marines, and am spreading the word to my local facebook community and by word of mouth at my game shop. There are only a couple BT players around, but all the guys at my shop respect one another, and more than a few will probably be willing to help us out. You'd be surprised what a good attitude and some friendly Zeal can do to make a match fun.

Or, well. You guys wouldn't, but other people might.

Answered it last night already, asked for primaris with swords that weren't lieutenants...

So Intercessor Sergeants or Captains?

Kidding of course, but we do have -some- pointy options available.

Not enough.

I can agree with that. I feel like GW should sell blister packs or something of melee weapons so we easilly pick up extras when the sets they sell only 1 in the actual kit.

Tbh that makes me just want to turn to kromlech, spellcrow, conversionworld, shapeways or any of the other thrid parties just on general principle.

I don't like most of the third party stuff and I hate paying a premium for bits. I'd rather see upgrade packs that add new options (as well as let us buy multiples of a weapon) added to the game than have to muck about with hunting down a single extra of something because the box comes with 1 of something I can take 4 of.

Like the old days when you could buy a single heavy weapon marine in a blister. I recall when the Multi-Melta devastator came out, he was available both in the Salamanders tactical squad kit, and separately.

That'd be a way to do it too, but honestly they've got chapter upgrade sprues, why not ones with like 5 melta guns and the like?

Threw my vote in for BT librarians.

Actually said Primaris chapter-specific units like SW Grey Slayers, BT Sword Brethren, etc. I don't think we will ever see BT get a full codex to themselves, at most a WD article with a few unique things. However getting a unique unit would help every chapter and the BT's.

ask for a codex - maybe you get a white dwarf index...

ask for a white dwarf index - maybe you get a additional formation

So we should be asking for Warhammer 40,000: Black Templar edition and we might get a codex?

It's one thing to be like the Crimson Fists where you were always just "another Imperial Fist". It is another to have been raised up to a point where you had your own codex, only to be thrown down to a couple of pages.

I wish every major chapter got their own book, however that isn't feasible. However I do believe that GW could do alot to include alot more variety in the codex book.

I believe that we aren't seeing the full picture yet. I believe that GW will release a new codex for every faction that will be improve on the last one. BL got some updates and Abaddon. I believe the others will eventually get similiar treatment. We should be pushing any improvement for any chapter before that happens, because once that codex is out it will be sealing that chapters fate until 9th.

*Actually looking back on chapter specific books, they could sell a big "codex core* book that had all the basic of every chapter and then a small booklet with chapter specific information. Would reduce the bloat of the core book and give more varied chapter options.

That was my thought back in 7e as well when I started learning with Dark Angels, then realising how much they were missing in non-flavour units. Primaris would make this especially easy, with a unified core of dedicated units (e.g. Intercessors, Hellblasters) and then say a Dornian supplement covering some or all of the triad of IF, CF, BT; an Unforgiven supplement, heck, even an UM supplement for their character bloat. Keep those at $20-25 or so and I wouldn't mind them being updated or even grabbing several flavours for collection/lore.

And for those who forgot don’t know, for convenience sake the list of every Unique Black Templar Unit;

Marshall

Castellan

Durandal Dreadnought

Sword Brothern (Normal And Terminator)

Black Templar Assault Squad

Neophyte Ancient

Crusader Squad

Biker Crusader Squad

Neophyte Ancient

Emperor’s Champion

High Marshall Helbrecht

High Chaplain Grimaldus

Cenobyte Servitors

Castallen Draco

Of these we retain access too

Crusader Squad

Emperor’s Champion

High Marshall Helbrecht

Sword Brothern Terminator Squads

Cenobyte Servitors

High Chaplain Grimaldus

Marshall (Captain)

Castallen (Liutanent)

Has equivalent units but significant wargear difference

Sword Brothern (Company Veteran)

--Sword Brothern had formalized unit entry in Codex Black Templars. It is best represented by Company Veterans. The difference is Company Veteran have a Sgt and are only 2-5.

Durandal Dreadnought (Ironclad)

--Durandal was from a French White Dwarf to represent an image of Dreadnought with two Dreadnought close combat weapons in our codex. The Durandal while representable by Ironclad, it would be more in line with a regular dread with 2 DCCW. The option for IronClad to take Hurricane while not one for the Durandal, is a sensible edition to the unit to further seperate itself from regular Dreadnought.

BT Assault Squad (Assault Squad)

--Squad in Codex Black Templar could have Power Weapons instead of Plasma Pistol or Flamer. And arm itself universally with Storm Shield.

Has no equivalent unit;

Biker Crusader Squad

--Existed in Codex Armageddon, not seen sense then. The Templar Codex equivalent of the squad varied itself from Codex Space Marines is instead of special weapons the squad could take power weapons instead.

Neophyte Ancient

--Existed in Codex Black Templar as a special option in Helbrecht Command Squad. For one reason or another was rarely taken.

Castallen Draco

--Character from a White Dwarf Campaign, of Templars vs Aeldari. Was stated and points as a regular Castallen + his wargear.

So if you plan on asking for things or pointing out stuff we could get. Those units are the unique units we lost or once had. The one old ‘UU’ we have I did not list was Master of Sanctity, because it was not even a rename. It was a regular Vanilla Marine unit. This is List is not meant for wishlisting, but for my fellow fraters to know all of our various unique units from our histories, to use as a reason for why we could use a full Codex or otherwise.

Currently we have (assuming represented but not accurately count as 0.5), around 4.5 to 6 units for our army. Ignoring the represented but not well, we have 3 units actively not represented, and two generics. So basically, three new datasheets (Castallen Draco, Crusader Biker, and Neophyte Ancient), and allowing our assault squads to take Power Weapons with a vanilla marine wife change of Company Veterans going 2-10, would fix the most salient gaps in our range.

Durandal would be only tricky unit to remake or represent given it has two possible choices (Ironclad or Regular). The first is basically what I see as modernized Durandal, but ironically cannot actually take 2 DCCW but can atleast emulate taking 2 (and Hurricane Left Arm is a sensible extension). While the regular one would basically better off as a new datasheet, with option of replacing shooty arm with DCCW or a Hurricane Bolter.

Long story short. I am hoping this post and our various unique units (+ histories) that we have lost over the years. Helps brothers compile our “suggestion” to games workshop for a new Codex or more fleshed rules in vanilla marine.
