White scars organization and heraldry

Reading through Horus Heresy maleovence. Im wondering why the white scars When divided into chapters forgo a lot of special units and heraldry. The then white scars are quite different from GW white scars.

 

This can, i think, be said about all the legions.

Well for one it's because almost every legion/chapter decided to follow the Codex Astartes written by Guilliman which among other things also dictates heraldry. The other reason is that 40k exists longer than 30k so all the special units, heraldry and so on simply didn't exist by the time the 40k stuff got written.

Yes those things you point out is what i thought of as well. Its just that...the legions were way cooler

Yea, a lot of the legion units were discarded when broken down to chapters. 

 

Actually, the new phobos squads from shadow-spear would make a good reborn recon squad. That is, when they get their full release.

I would argue veteran units in 40K easily roll forwards legion unique units counts as, heraldry, paint schemes ect. Ditto for HQ's, complementing the codex changes.
