Huron Blackheart and his entourage

Hi,

 

Planning on building some red corsairs and would love to take huron. The question is: where to put him? Given that he is a sorcerer makes jim quite versatile. He gives a free cp so swap smite for something his bodyguard can make use of sounds like a good idea. I hvae been thinking the following:

 

Melee chosen and exalted champ in a rhino. Take warptime and or death hex. Huron primarily buffs the unit.

 

Plasma chosen and exalted champ in a rhino, take death hex and prescience. Huron buffs the unit and provides a counter charge element.

 

Possessed and mop and gp in rhino take warptime and/or death hex and/or prescience.this can also be made in a specialist detachment, and some fancy mop spells. Instead of the rhino can take a dark apostle with the -1 to jit prayer for 1 turn of -1 to hit and hope warptime goes. This is much more egg in 1 basket than i like, but there are so many fun things to be done here and huron actually does add a lot to possessed.

 

Chaos space marines in rhino. Similar to plasma chosen but less deadly. Go for contested objectives and take them. Huron adds some punch.

 

Terminators are awesome but i do not see them work well with huron unless in a land raider.

 

Any other ideas? What are your favorite options?

Huron is basically just a chaos lord with access to psychic powers and the cp bonus, so he should probably be in melee punching things. My vote would be for some sort of melee unit escort, either chosen, bezerkers or possessed in a rhino or a big unit on foot. Exalted champ is nice but not mandatory, especially given Huron gives the reroll aura and psychic powers, he is enough of a buffer already. I definetly wouldn't put him with basic marines, just not punchy enough.

They still benefit from the advance and charge Red Corsairs trait if you get dismounted and Huron can tech any psychic power from warptime to prescience as needed. Now, CSMs are wanting a lot rushing forward so don't make that your only forward target of course or else it will get smoked.

Totally this. Huron (with the new trait and Demon Stenght or Death Hex)+Exalted and 8 zerkers in a rhino (or better yet double the zerkers and rhinos).

Could bank on 'more where they came from', and run him up the board with 2x20 choppy basic chaos marines with the khorne banner. Use warptime to push them forward, mwtcf to regen the most injured unit into a new position turn two, try for some long charges with big csm blobs rerolling with khorne banner. Bring an apostle or exalted along for the stroll.

Khorne berzerkers are juicy! But not sure how to make it work lore wise. Buffing them with psykers and all that.

They don't need to be zerker in what ever lore you flesh out for them. Could be badabian veterans from the old astral claws assault squad. The loss of badab and the war still burns a fierce hatred and rage in their hearts.

Actual zerkers make plenty of sense. Remember that the world eaters as a legion are shattered. Plenty of independant world eater warbands going around after that, but just as many smaller groups working as mercenaries for whoever can afford them, and Huron is one of the wealthier patrons among csm warlords.

I'm fairly certain Huron has secured the services of several bezerkers, wouldn't be surprised either if he even has an apothecary who can implant the butchers nails to make more bezerkers. Huron after all is one of the more powerful chaos warlords around.
