Book needed for white scars legion

Im trying to understand what books i need for white scars to get into 30k.

 

Except core rulebook, do i need HH legiones Astartes age of darkness Army list and book 8: maleovence?

 

Its a bit confusing?

The legion special rules for WS you can find in black book six (Retribution) page 262.

For the more in depth complete rules for WS (unit breakdown and wargear, RoW etc) you'll need black book eight (Malevolence).

For making a legion army list in 30k you will need the following red books that contains all the units at the time of print of the books:

• The Horus Heresy – Legiones Astartes: Age of Darkness Legions
• The Horus Heresy – Legiones Astartes: Age of Darkness Army List

 

So if you want the complete set of information to make army lists from printed books you will need a few books, take into consideration that book six is no longer sold by FW. Also you will need to download all the free FAQ/updates too.

 

 

A cheap and convenient alternative to make army lists is Battlescribe. This software is made for list building. It is updated whenever a new book, FAQ, update is released. In Battlescribe you will not only find all units' rules, but also rules for generic and special weapons and wargear. These rules and profiles pop up in a seperate window in battlescribe whenever you put your mouse pointer on an unit/wargear entry. It's super convenient and even makes learning the rules and profiles easier in my opinion. I can higly recommend to try it out.

 

If you're not interested in the fluff that the black books provide (lot of it overlaps with black library novels.) Then the red game rules book and Battlescribe will be sufficient source of rules and info to build armies and learn to play the game.
