GenerationTerrorist
Hi guys. Just wondering really why anyone would take Terminators over a unit of Obliterators? I feel that I would get more combined threat from a unit of 3 Obliterators than I would from a unit of 10 Fist/Bolter Terminators for roughly equal cost. bozo69pd
Do people take blobs of terminators? MSU termicide combiplasma? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355404-obliterators-terminators/#findComment-5299100 Share on other sites
Sception
Why would you take more than one or two fists on a unit of terminators? Anyway, in game reasons: combi bolter / chain axe termies are cheaper, combi plasma / chain axe termies are more reliable (albeit shorter ranged). Black Legion termies in particular have a halfway decent specialist detachment. Termies use up less valuable elite slots... though with the way detachments work that probably doesn't matter. Otherwise, yeah, oblits seem better in general. The increased effective range in particular puts them over plasminators. Out of game reasons: subjective aesthetic preference. Also, termies come in a nice multipart box (though chain axes are a pain to come by, granted). Obliterators are currently only available as two mono-pose figures in a large box full of a bunch of other stuff you might not want - a box that is itself about to go out of production altogether with no sign of a separate obliterator box any time soon. Heck, chosen /never/ got a release outside of dark vengeance and are completely unavailable right now. No reason to expect better for oblits. Mekhitar
Large numbers of DG termies are all the rage in certain formats after the beta bolter rule was instituted. Oblits are just different. Smaller unit footprint and tougher weapons, serving a different role. Personally I take termies for 3 reasons: 1) I have a lot of anti tank and am looking to max my horde clear. 3 ax/SB termies are 10pts more than a single oblit but get 2x the shots. I don’t need or want the power fists. 2) I’m filling a vanguard slot - so that means elites. 3) I can choose to take only 5, which is cheaper than a full 10man vs 3 oblits. Oblits are good - just different. If I took them I’d want to support them with buffs... but deepstriking purge termies do what I want them to do independently. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355404-obliterators-terminators/#findComment-5299115 Share on other sites
Prot
Large numbers of DG termies are all the rage in certain formats after the beta bolter rule was instituted. I used to use those. I will say if they make Termies T5, with a 4++ and a special weapon like a Blight Launcher for that cheap... I'd take Termies again. I really did think when we saw the teasers something like that was going to happen, because otherwise the upgrade is largely aesthetic. (Especially considering one axe per box). Call me crazy.... I believe the FAQ must have something in there for Power Armour/Termies. Panzer
I really doubt it unfortunately. Otherwise we would've seen it in the CSM Codex 8.5 already.
