I'd get rid of the scythes, bells and other bits that give them their medieval / fantasy flavour. The 'haunts alone are quite okay for daemonic spectres.

I think they work with them. They’re classic images of death, something humans fear now and will still fear in the 31st millennium. It makes sense to me that there would be daemons reflecting those images.

Yup, I can totally see where you're coming from there.

And of course subversive daemonic forces would reflect or mirror through symbolism what mankind would fear most.

And there sure are enclaves of humanity / cultures scattered across the galaxy, that have attachments to those rather classical symbols of 'death'  and their own mortality, despite the Imperial Truth, maybe because the Crusades never reached them etc.  There's a myriad of fluff reasons, yes.

On a sidenote, Astartes aren't human though.

But that's totally irrelevant, I merely stated that from a perspective of personal taste I'd make them more ... spectre-ish, more alien, sans human symbols.

After all, we fear the unknown and alien most of all.

Ah, but is death not the ultimate unknown? ;)

Ah, but is death not the ultimate unknown?

No.

And yes.

But certainly not the symbolism associated with it. Most cultures are rather over-saturated with it instead.

And your attitude towards death / the process of dying / afterlife / essentially all things related to it depends heavily on your cultural and ethnological outlook and / or upbringing.

But this is going totally off-topic and now please don't let us derail this thread about the Daemons of the Ruinstorm any further, but let's be exited about what's to come in terms of miniatures / conversions in this thread !

I feel that whilst the minis themselves are nicely painted, with the rusty weapons etc they do scream Other game systems. I think they just look like nicely painted AoS minis. Which is fine.....but not quite clicking for Daemons in HH? Maybe dropping the fantasy weapons and adding some 40k basing material? :)

Hm, sorry, no offence,  these are just straight and pure Nighthaunt minis. Isn't it against board rules to post non 30/40k related content? :)

Also it would be preferable to post pictures instead of a link to a blog. It feels kind of clickbaity.

It’s cool, @noigrim has explained that they’re being used and modelled for 30k essentially. I think the idea is fab just not quite bang on the money....yet! But I’m sure with some extra work they’d be amazing as 30k daemons!

Pics are always better than links for sure though but again not everyone can do this. :)

@noigrim: if you want to post pics there’s some helpful hints in the link page below:

Dunno if I can post these here, mods delete if proceeds. Sometime ago I painted some mantic abyssals which work great as boodletters/lesser daemons, the abyssal range is full of wonderful (and cheap) stuff: brutes, beasts, swarms and even huge daemons for  lords of war.

Nothing to worry about bud, we're not exclusive to GW content. :)

Loads of 3rd parties produce some great minis that help "plug the gaps" in GWs range etc. These are such minis. Nice bases!

I really like the Nighthaunt minis as daemons because of the lore implication. Not totally 30k relevant, but it's fluff that humans fear the visage of the grim reaper because the C'Tan Nightbringer devastated ancient humanity. So having a C'Tan burning itself onto the collective subconscious of humanity, only for them to turn around and empower warp entities in the same visage sounds awesome to me.

Every day my fear of people rejecting a nighthaunt demon army slowly eroded and projects like this take a jackhammer too it. I freaking love this.

Lesser daemons with crushing claws are surprisingly good, two units of ten beating termis twice
