Council needed, All Comers List

Hi all,

I have an annual 3 day beer, bbq and 40k tourney in a month with close friends. We are not super competitive and just like to have fun games.

My friends play Craftworlds, Dark Angels, Gray Knights and IG.

We have not yet decided on points though expect we will bring both 1000 and 1500 since we don't get to play often.

Craftworlds, expecting bikes, reapers, seers, spears and some FW hover vehicles.

DA, termies, bikes, gun lines

Gray Knights, could be anything

IG, lots of boots and tanks, lol.

I plan on Ari, 1 DP, termie Sorc maybe an exalted or 2. 30 to 40 tzangoors and at least 10 if not more Rubrics and 1 unit of termies and a pred. Some spawn and maybe helbrutes.

I can't really buy much of anything new though this is what I plan on building around and have other models as well. U bbn plan on pure 1k sons.

Your feedback is welcome as I put together my list(s).

Also does anyone know of a resource for all CA rules/ points changes?

My group is only able to play a few times a year and none of us have invested in any Chapter Approved books. I want us all to benefit from the rules changes hoping we don't have to buy books (if that's legit) i seem remember rules tweeks and points were available but you gotta buy the book for missions.

Of course I want to benefit from the Bolter Beta rule as well

You can google images of more or less all missions from the two CA books. Some are of course harder to read than others, but it's what I usually do, if I need to find something.

I would run without the hellbrutes and add more rubrics and SoT's and spawn, if I were you.

  • 1 month later...

A quick update as we had a 3 day bash at the beach last weekend.

Keep in mind I only had 3 8th ed games under my belt and those were over a year ago with one of the other guys there. The other two had not played 8th though have played 40k for over 10 years but as we get older its hard to get together.

We played very small games and I went 3 of 5. We kept our games at 750 and 1000 for faster play and learning curves.

My lists were for the most part

750 points

Ahriman on disc

Exalted on disc with warpflame pistol

2 five man rubrics w warpflame pistols

1 unit of 30 Tzangoors w bray horn

1 chaos spawn

I can't remember all the units I fought and am surely missing some below.

1000 points, same list with a unit of SOTs

We also did a 500 where I took a Supreme Command Detatchment with

Ari on disc

Exalted on disc

Demon price, wings double talons

1000 points vs Dark Angels. Shadows and Cloak(?) mission. I forget his list but mostly space marines, bikes, a tank, nepheliem flier, enemy psyker etc.

Tactical objectives were in my favor as well as Rubrics not being able to be shifted off objectives. Got First Blood, slay the warlord.

Smites and no los for him helped me win this one soundly 10 to 0.

1000 points against Imperial Guard. Tanks, troops, flier that hovers, scouts oh my.

Forget the mission (protect your objective and take you opponants) but no tactical objectives. I started off really strong though got whittled down by end of turn 6. Made a desperate play at turn 5 failing my charge against Creed with Ahriman and being left with my D*** in the wind. I death hexed Creed and If I had made the charge (he had 1 wound left) would have likely won if the game ended at 5. It did not. Still fun though.

500 against DA

Mission was wipe each other out heh heh.

Dreadnaught shooting made short work of me. I killed one bike but rolled bad. Over turn 2. Still fun.

750 vs Eldar

Forgot the mission. We had multiple objectives, no maelstrom.

Fought shadow spectres, 2 units of wraithguard one shooty one choppy and his shadow specter Phoenix lord. Managed to table him by turn 5 but it felt competitive the first 3 rounds. I was able to use terrain to choke his units and smite away. Gift of chaos was also clutch here.

750 vs Dark Angles

Was a good match (same mission against Guard) but it fell apart for him by turn 4. Tabled him turn 5.

Thoughts.

Pros: My friends were taken aback at how well smite and other spells like gift and infernal gaze did and what little they could do. Ahri got warptimed and gifted a squad of snipers before they could shoot. My enemies did not bone up on psykers to deny the witch. Warp flame pistols were very effective when I was charged or a unit was close. Ahriman and the Exalted supported in close combat very effectively when needed especially against fliers. SOTs cleaned up when I used them. Bolter discipline is awesome. 5 man Rubrics with either Glamour or Weaver were very difficult to shift and did great. Chaos spawn was a great deterrent and when it could charge Fated Mutation was great. Webwayed Tzangoors were key for screening against the wraithguard or dog piling the dreadnaught with cycle of slaughter.

Cons: My buds were a bit soured by my sorcerers smites and wondered if 1k sons were OPed (what?) or if Ahri, rubrics and sots were too cheap. Not much I could do against volume of fire against guard. Forgot Death to the FE everytime. My 500 point supreme command had no shooting, poor psi tests combined made that one a poor showing.

We are not a competitive group just like to enjoy good games.

In between 40k matches we played Illuminati and Munchkin Conan.

A good time.

Yea smite based armies can come off as strong in the surface to people that aren’t used to it. Seasoned vets will through garbage in Smite paths and find ways to isolate your characters.

I’m glad you had fun and got to flex your thousand sons.
