What to play these minis as?

I hope this is the correct subforum for this Question. If not please direct me to the right one.

First a little information: I bought a huge DA army a long time ago from a good friend. Unfortunately I never managed to field it, because of reasons. However, I recently decided to come back to warhammer and dedust my armies. So while I was repairing and reorganising my models, I came upon 2 space marine captains painted in the DA colours. So, since DA company commanders look a bit different to SM Captains, I wondered what I can play these minis as and had the idea to play them as Primaris Lieutenants, which would make for a great addition in my Army (I don't have any Primaris so far). Unfortunately I'm not sure If I could just do this outside of friendly games (ie on tourneys). Do I have to convert them somehow? If yes, how? Generally spoken, is there some major difference between Primaris Power Armour and regular space Marine Power Armour (looks wise).

Here's an image of the 2 guys.

Additionally I have a guy, that looked like a veteran without just without a robe to me, but last time at my local store a guy constantly referred to him as Company Master. I'm quite sure that he isn't meant to be a Company master, but I'm now doubting my reasoning to see him as a veteran, can someone please shed some light onto what this mini is probably supposed to be?

Primaris are a completely different size/scale to these marines. If you're using them as a "try before you buy" type deal, it'll probably be acceptable to friends etc. The winged helm (typically) is a the mark of a Company Master (Captain), whilst this doesn't prevent you from using him as a Vet, most will assume the model to be a Co. Master.

I wouldn't use those as Primaris, especially if you intend on including actual Primaris later on. The difference in size is very pronounced. Any reason why you don't want to use them as regular captains? They are still useable on the table.

The last mini looks indeed like a company master at first glance, but that's because I usually associate those winged helmets with Azrael, the old LE models and the Company Master from the Dark Vengeance set.

Edit: Ninja's by Smasha

Thanks for your input :)

Well, DA have no "regular captains", don't they? I mean Masters replace Captains (with same stat lines, etc), right? And Masters somehow look quite different to regular SM Captains, I think. Also, together with the last guy I would then have Azrael and a total of 5 Company Masters.... Granted, all with different loadouts, but still... I thought, I may use them as something else.

You're right, that was, what also instilled doubt in my mind fortress, however, there's an official DA Veterans "Upgrade Pack" which also sports those helmet wings in the sprues.

I always saw those bits as an extra to give us a way of making a Company Master. Like how the sprue also comes with some DW legs? To make a different DW model to the standard DW box?

Well, that's a point. Guess I have 5 Company Masters, then ^^. Now I just have to get my hands on 2 additional winged helmets and get them on the other 2 minis somehow...

The first one will be easy enough, with a little care you should be able to cut/pry the head off the plastic one with some clippers, but the metal one probably isn't worth the hastle. If you *need* him to have one, eBay a second of Azraels Watchers and have him tag along, they can both be made to fit on a 40mm base too :tu:

Just discovered that there are non-Primaris Lieutenants too. There are just no official minis (aside for one from the command box).

Could they count as normal Lieutenants maybe?

I think they would be fine as lieutenants.

I know my jump pack sgt with power sword got a field promotion to lieutenant so he could get some game play.

Ohhh damn! I knew about normal greenwing lieutenants, I saw your post, and was like: Wait what kind of wargear can they take?

Then I opened the trusty scribe and saw.
Pretty much annnnything!
Kinda useful!

I may have to try a jump pack lieutenant to run up with some ravenwing as an alternative to the expensive talonmaster in my next game. Would be cool to have one with a smash cap as well. Not sure how competitive, but fun!
