Legion Fleets - A Brief Reference Guide

You're doing the Emperor's work Marshal. Would you be up to including individual vessel names under each legion? I remember a few Raven Guard vessels were pretty notable, if you think think its a worthy inclusion I'll look them up and see what they were and where they appeared.

I intentionally excluded names because you run into the issue of many names coming from Black Library and others from the Black Books. If you guys want we could add a section on the special ships mentioned in the Black Books, and I'll include a link to Lexicanum for ship names (they have a pretty complete list and also provide sources). Might be a good compromise?

There was a big thread here about the named ships of the Great Crusade and Heresy which included name, class, faction, status, and source. It might be bit outdated here and there, but it might be an idea to revive that thread rather then trying to reinvent the wheel here.

To be fair, this is specifically about numbers from the Black Books, and building a compendium of Black Book-verse hard numbers for people's narratives, not so much a catch all compendium of HH lore.

There might be some inflation going on as the books progress. Malevolence has a surprisingly large White Scars fleet present at Chondax, and this is with only “over two-thirds” of the legion participating: 472 capital ships and approximately 600 “lesser strike craft and destroyers”. Imperial Army assets are listed separately.

30 White Scars ships were lost during the campaign, most of them captured.

“Perhaps a full third” of the Alpha Legion fleet were modified bulk freighters.

What page did you get the White Scars numbers from, I couldn't find anything.

Yeah, that sounds like mad inflation, as the SoH with 100 ish Capitals and 300ish smaller craft are described in Betrayal as 'among the greatest under any single commander's flag' yet it seems the Khan could lose that many ships behind the sofa and still outmatch any legion but Dorn's in naval strength.

Those numbers would give the Scars an IF level fleet (and we don't know how much of the IF fleet was capitals, but I'd be shocked if it was nearly 50% like this madness).

As soon as I read that post it rang a bell with me, and yeah, it does give those numbers on page 79 (the magic page number apparently :tongue.: ) of Malevolence:

"Fleet Contingent" [at Chondax]

"Elements of the White Scars fleet, 472 capital ships, mainly of lighter mass and class, and approximately 600 lesser strike craft and destroyers."

It's worth noting that the "two thirds" part on that page doesn't specifically refer to the fleet. It might include that, but it's in the following paragraph, referring to the legionary numbers.
