PiñaColada
Right, so I keep start-stopping my Thousand sons army to paint more Orks but now I feel like those interruptions are winding down and I'm left with some things I'm wondering about before I truly get going this summer. Hope y'all can provide some clarity here.1, I sort of have a plan laid out on converting up a daemon prince but it would clearly be based on a female model. It's not the biggest deal if this is slightly against the fluff IMO but I'd still like to know if this feels "on message" to you guys/already exists in the fluff. Because just reading about the DPs in the 1k sons codex it seems to insinuate that they're all former sorcerors and those guys are written about exclusively as males, probably because all of them are former marines right? My thinking is, surely Tzeentch wouldn't care about that and if there was a mortal presenting a lot of promise he'd be willing to dub that mortal his champion regardless of gender/background. So basically my idea (in a very rough description) is that there was a mortal woman who started a cult of Tzeentch worshipper on some depressing imperial industrial moon and kept recruiting until there were enough worshippers to try and overthrow the government. Massive death tolls lead to the warp opening, a thousand sons warband arrives through the warp and takes the moon. She becomes ascended to a daemon prince and ends up leading the warband since the warband sees it as a sign of the next step of Tzeentchs grand plan. Does this sound sort of plausible (in 40k terms that is) to you? Again, I don't feel like it necessarily needs to mesh perfectly with a existing story but I'd like to try and make my own fluff work in the established setting. 2, What is the deal with rubricae and perils now? A aspiring sorceror perils, what happens:a, He dies from the d3 mortal wounds, those also potentially spill over and the unit is caught in the blast b, He dies, no mortal wound spillover but the unit is caught in the blast c, He dies, the d3 mortal wounds can spillover but the unit can't be caught in the blast d, He dies, no mortal wounds spillover and the unit can't be caught in the blast 3, Is the dual power swords on exalteds build legal now or what? It's not in the FAQ but is in the digital codex if I understand correctly 4, If you roll a 12 on Boon of Tzeentch do you get "just" a daemon prince or can he have wings? I assume you can freely choose equipment and spells since those are all free but are wings included? sneakybamsen
Piña, it's your models and your army, rule of cool If you want to build a female DP, by all means, do it. With regards to the rest, I haven't played my thousand sons yet, but it seems that a is the right answer for question 2. Unfortunately. It's something GW will hopefully look at, cause having an aspiring sorcerer explode, killing an MSU squad of rubrics in the process, just isn't worth it. Dual swords I am not sure about, but if it's in the digital version, I'd say it should be good to go? I don't think you can have wings on a DP from Boon of Tzeentch, but I have nothing written to suggest one way or the other. Skerr
Hey Pina, If you got the fluff nothing wrong with "Chicks with Rubrics" if that's how you wanna role. I think A is the right answer but its a passionate debate at times. Follow the flow chart put out by GW the dual sword was legal though I seem to hear something changed and some may question its legality? Not sure DP is wingless bird if ascended in game by boon. Good luck! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355510-just-some-general-thousand-sons-questions/#findComment-5301532 Share on other sites
PiñaColada
Obviously I'm okay with using a female DP, I guess I was more wondering if that's ever happened in the fluff. I feel like if it matches in a normal DP in size then that should negate almost any legitimate complaints so I'll probably end up building one. The idea I have in my head might be a bit tough to realise though, so we'll see how it all turns out.Regarding rubricae and perils: blech. Option A is so extremely punishing for the caster that it's pretty scary to attempt spells. I really thought the correct answer would've been B which is still plenty bad. Oh well, I really like the models and want quite a few units in the end so I guess it's just down to CP rerolls, gaze of fate and dumb luck :P I assumed the daemon prince would be wingless and it's still really good, but man I want everything to have wings darnit :)On the subject on daemon prince though, jeez are the malefic talons better than the other options. I knew that to be the case going in since those are the only ones I ever see but I just assumed the sword was +1S and the axe maybe +3S. Those weapons are barely better but you get 2 fewer attacks. The axe can't even proc death to the false emperor. Also, am I correct in thinking the tzaangor enlightened are some of the worst offenders in painting time to points ratio in all of 40k? They look really intricate and are pretty darn cheap in points Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355510-just-some-general-thousand-sons-questions/#findComment-5301648 Share on other sites
Kite Senet
It seems questionable whether or not one could properly consider a Daemon Prince to have a sex, with the possible exception of Slaaneshi ones. However, there are instances of female humans apparently ascending into Daemon Princes, including what I suspect is the first known encounter of humanity with an entity that may be a Daemon Prince: the daemon Ingethel, who was once a young girl of the same name, who drew the Primarch Lorgar to Chaos long before the heresy proper had begun, as depicted in the Horus Heresy novel The First Heretic. Skerr
Good find Kite. While I am not aware of any precedent in Tzeentch lore for a lady dp i don't think any reasonable opponant would mind if its size appropriate. That's precisely what I was looking for, thanks Kite! Now I feel my own idea is vindicated somewhat. I'm still dreading the how to make the actual mini however :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355510-just-some-general-thousand-sons-questions/#findComment-5302012 Share on other sites
Xenith
Valkia the Bloody is a Daemon Prince(ss). No issue with that, other than the reason for ascension seems tame, just a few million deaths. I feel a mortal would have to do more to attract the god's attention. Perturabo nearly wiped out the fists, The Warsmith ate like 200 progenoid glands. Maybe have her poison/intoxicate the planetary populace to commit ritual suicide to open a warp rift that pulls the planet into the eye? Kite Senet
In the case I mentioned previously, she ascended by the sacrifice of a total of ten people, if I recall correctly. The gods of Chaos can be very fickle, but they can also be absurdly "generous" if they have plans for you. Particularly, I would not be surprised if Tzeentch were to bestow daemon princehood to create useful pawns as often as to reward his mortal followers for great acts of service to Chaos. Kite Senet
I'm not sure we know what she looked like before she transcended her human form, but after transcendance...well, she's not exactly my ideal waifu... ...well, on second thought, she seems to also like Rubric Marines. Maybe we could make it work. ;P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355510-just-some-general-thousand-sons-questions/#findComment-5302204 Share on other sites
PiñaColada
Well she looks really emotive, and it looks like she cares. These are all great qualities!Anyways, as someone who wants a pure TS force (with a possible exception for the noctilith crown) I'm real tempted to run plasma pistols on several aspiring sorcerers/exalted & just standard ones as anti-tank is looking a bit thin. But we don't really get those weapons in the kit so is there a specific kit that's a good buy for raiding those (and where you can hopefully gets some use of other wargear as well)? Also, is it legal to put both the hellfyre missile rack and soulreaper on the same SOT? Meaning you could lose 3 of the normal termies before you're losing the more killy ones. BoomWolf
Yup, legal and effective. Never spread them out as nothing in the game can single out a model in a unit. Skerr
Looks like clarity on MW distribution in the new FAQ. Apply to any model, so looks like the Sorcerer can pass it on to Rubicae if I read it correctly. Apply to any model, so looks like the Sorcerer can pass it on to Rubicae if I read it correctly. Yep, that is exactly how I read it too. Unless we are talking scarab occult where the sorcerer is injured, then the perils will have to go to him, and thereby hit the unit, when he dies. But woe to the one that lets the sorcerer take damage first :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355510-just-some-general-thousand-sons-questions/#findComment-5304510 Share on other sites
BoomWolf
Well, I sometimes pick the sorcerer to take the hit before the gunner does if I reckon I need the guns more than the spell he is carrying.
