5 relics?

Maybe I missed something here, but Black Legion looks like they can get 5 relics for 6CP. 

 

Battle-forged army, you get 1 right off the bat. Then you spend 3CP to gain 2 relics from the Artefacts of Chaos (CSM codex). Then you spend 3 more CP to gain 2 relics from the Relics of the Legion (Vigilus book). Since the two stratagems state different relic types (Artefacts vs Relics of the Legion), you could ideally get 5 relics in your army. Practical? Heck no, that's 6 valuable CP spent that we Chaos players would most likely need elsewhere. But it's doable. And it'd be funny/fun to do, especially in something like an Apocalypse game where we will most likely have a bunch of CP anyways.

 

I'm sure this has already been pointed out numerous times by now. But it's the first I noticed of it, and I haven't seen anything else posted about it. Thought I'd bring it to light.

I thought the BL strategem says you can't use it with the one from the CSM codex, specifically. I'll look again when i get home from work

You can't use them both in the same army, though it doesn't say so in the stratagem, it says so somewhere else in vigilus.  I forget where exactly, but it does.

 

The black legion relic stratagem is just an alternative to the core CSM stratagem which specifically allows relics from vigilus... which the core stratagem maybe doesn't?  I would have figured the fact that you can use black legion relics in place of regular relics would have allowed that anyway, but maybe not.

 

Regardless, no, you can't take both.  Pretty disappointing, since otherwise I'd be sorely tempted myself.

There was a Bols or spikeybits article in this vein. If you do the ones out of the codex/bl as your main and then take a detachment of Tsons or Dguard you can use their version of the extra relic strategy for multiple relics.

Yeah you could have like 9 already with 2 from DG/TS/CSM and daemons plus a free one

 

Has to be from the specific relic lists but still possible

 

I've come pretty close with a DP mash before using 7 relics

I think three relics of any sort is your lot with a BL army and I suspect that it could well be clarified in a QA.

 

You can legitimately get four with a red Corsairs army (three through normal means and one more through the Corsairs warlord trait), but that’s as high as it goes I think

Nah.  Unlike the warlord trait, you can't buy the relic extra via field commander.  From my understanding, you can take a specialist detachment relic in place of your normal relic, or not at all.
