Great work on the Iron Tenth, that matt black is sweet! How did you get that please? I never seem to get my matt black anything like that.

Thanks man! Its a mix of mechanicum standard Grey and tamiya Nato black 2:3 ration with a really small amount of tamiya x-21. When dry its washed with an oilwash of 1:1 black and burnt umber -> a coat of matte varnish and done. Im using graphite pencil 6B to smear weathering and a small amount of typhus corrosion in selected recesses

I like the IH's matte chipped finish. I think you could do better with the chekerboard effect on the DA's though. Looks like you did the white squares by themselves, could be wrong. Another way is to block in half a white pad for instance, then do spaced black squares on the half end, then follow on from there as a guide. Final pass to tidy up, should be perfect then. A good detail brush is a must for that.

Hej Johan,

Looking good, your breachers looks like you used plastic MkIII, do you order separate arms for holding the shields or do you use the plastic arms the model come with?

The flames on your Sallie dreadnought legs look more irregular and realistic, I suggest you try to do the same on the shoulder pad.

I plan to start out painting my small IH force too, I have 10 Gorgons, 10 Immortals and 10 MkIII resin IH tacticals. I planning to paint up a smallish ZM force to start with, I realise I ought to expand with tanks later on as tanks are beneficial with IH special rules. I'm considering to paint them with the FW paint scheme with dark metallics with slight green and purple hues.

Have you tried this paint scheme?

Thanks bro! Yeah i ordered boardingshields from shapeways and shieldarms from kromlech i think, its a little trouble fitting the shields right so the bolters fit, but its not an issue!

I really recomend Iron Hands, its such a cool legion! I have mostly infantry and Dreadnoughts but have 3x vindicators and 3x preds waiting to be painted. Ive not tried that way of painting because i dont have an airbrush :( im going for a matt black armour instead, aiming for that really old Iron fryingpan-look

There is 3d printed ones on shapeways. I'll have to get those for my Imperial Fists when I paint the termies. I think its some 13 euros (15 usd) for 5 pairs

Which shapeways arms did you get? The one from pop goes the monke are supposed to have hands sculpted on, so I'd hope youd only have to cut off the hand and pin them on.

Come to think about it, the shields had hands on them, and i used the left bolter-arms and cut off the hand and a bit of the fore-arm and fitted them together

Noted. Looks like I'll be shopping Pop goes the monkey too.

I can recommend getting an airbrush. Since I got mine, priming, basecoating and highlighting and final varnishing is sooo much easier and way less time consuming. You can get those starter kits on amazon (compressor, hose, regulator and airbrush) for around 150 USD inkluding shipping. Compare that with Chaos black spray cans for 17 USD/can.

How much of the Arm do you actually see? I can see myself cutting off the left Hand as well and then just pinning the shield to the arm.

The question is how much of that would be visible from different angles.

Yeah airbrush is such a great tool. I blew through the yellow on one tactical squad in an evening yesterday and I did have some difficulties in locking down the whole process and some technical Problems with my airbrush. Could habe been done way sooner.
