dbecer01
Hello everyone, so in your opinion, which is the most competitive Loyalist Space Marine Chapter fighting for the Imperium. Here are the stipulations: 1. Cannot have allies of any kind. You are only playing that marine faction (no loyal 32, no rusty 17, no assasins, etc.). 2. Can be any Adeptus Astartes faction (Including BA, DA, DW, SW, Custodes, GK, UM, etc.) 3. Please give reasons why (can be based on local meta etc.). Personally, I'm between Raven Guard (survivable against shooting, murderwings captain), Blood Angels(fast bursty dmg, fnp banner, smash captains, speed), and ultramarines (Guilleman, Tigi, and other characters). GrinNfool
I would go with Ultras if only 1 faction solely because of Bobby G. All marines can run smash captains anyways, just the BA are a bit better at it, but not enough better at it to out do a primarch lead force, similar for raven. DW have your best argument as an alternative to UM but can struggle pretty bad vs vehicle heavy lists and have no access to scouts or preds for kill shot and other things. DW I think will also likely get some sort of stormshield nerf to them at some point but who knows. Panzer
Not sure who can do it better now but either Imperial Fists or Crimson Fists with dakka Centurion spam in a specialist detachment. So many shots, so many mortal wounds. It just shreds everything. MARK0SIAN
Yeah I’d say either ultramarines or Crimson Fists. Ultras for Bobby G and Crimson Fists for the choice of chapter tactics and their specialist detachments and strats. Deathwatch will be very good (maybe the best) against certain enemies/lists but wouldn’t make the best ‘all comers’ list. I’m afraid I have no experience with SW so can’t comment on them. Grey Knights would be the worst in my opinion, out of all of them I don’t think they’d even be the best against a daemon army which is pretty sad :( I also wouldn’t include Custodes in the list, they’re not an Adeptus Astartes faction. dbecer01
Fair enough, also I know that I posed this just prior to the Faq, so DW are now weaker. I haven't read the whole faq yet either I do appreciate the responses though. I love this kind of thing :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355587-most-competetive-loyalist-mono-marine-faction/#findComment-5304236 Share on other sites
Ishagu
Ultras, Dark Angels, Crimson Fists and Deathwatch are probably the best. BA are very good in the hands of a skilled, finesse player. PeteySödes
I’m afraid I have no experience with SW so can’t comment on them. As a mono wolf it’s not a great situation. We have a few standout units and really fun combos so it’s still enjoyable but I’d definately say DW and BA are stronger than us atm. Lots of are strats are gated behind fluff barriers and we lack scouts for cheap troops/bubbles. My best example is how all the things we go pretty well, deployment shenanigans, mixed squads, etc, DW straight up do it better. I think all we have on them is melee. What do you mean by, "fluff barriers"? Like you won't run certain things because they're not fluffy? Iron Father Ferrum
I think he means they're more fluffy than effective. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355587-most-competetive-loyalist-mono-marine-faction/#findComment-5304503 Share on other sites

Fluff barriers like not being able to use a strategem if a wolf preist isn’t within 6”, the unit needing to take casualties, the defending unit needing to be a higher PL. our codex is littered with those restrictions while you look at the Gaurd book or most others and it’s “spent 1 cp to do thing” period.
