BLACK BLΠFLY
I had a discussion with a friend this weekend - his interpretation is double shots means a bolter would get four shots at half range. I couldn't see anything to say otherwise... am I missing something crucial here ? Cruor Vault
Yeah, your buddy is cheating. Bolter Discipline only gives new ways of triggering extra shots, it doesn't add a new doubling effect to get x4 shots like your buddy suggests. You double your number of shots if ANY of the following apply, not EACH. 1.) Fire at a target within half range (normal rapid-fire) 2.) Be a TERMINATOR, BIKE or DREADNOUGHT 3.) Be stationary INFANTRY Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355642-bolter-discipline-beta-rule-max-shots/#findComment-5304912 Share on other sites
BluejayJunior
The general rule for Rapid Fire is that you double the shots if you're in half range. The Bolter Discipline rule is "Instead of following the normal rules for Rapid Fire weapons, models in this unit firing Rapid Fire bolt weapons make double the number of attacks if any of the following apply: • The firing model’s target is within half the weapon’s maximum range. • The firing model is Infantry and every model in its unit remained stationary in your previous Movement phase. • The firing model is a Terminator, Biker, Centurion, Dreadnought or Helbrute." Nothing says those effects stack. You don't double it for each of them, you double it if any of the conditions are true. Otherwise, a stationary Terminator unit shooting at something within 12" would have 8 shots apiece. (Or 16, it the total doubled each time). This idea was shut down pretty quick when the Beta rule was revealed originally. BLACK BLŒ FLY
I agree with you both but gosh it’s poorly worded. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355642-bolter-discipline-beta-rule-max-shots/#findComment-5304953 Share on other sites
Kallas
gosh it’s poorly worded. No, it's not. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355642-bolter-discipline-beta-rule-max-shots/#findComment-5305127 Share on other sites
Panzer
People just need to learn how to read, really. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/355642-bolter-discipline-beta-rule-max-shots/#findComment-5305132 Share on other sites
Ciler
I don't think it's much to do with people needing to learn to read, people know how to read, by and large. To me the issue is people reading in a biased manner (some accidentally, some deliberately). See to that effect the entry about the wobbly model situation in the latest FaQ in which GW expresses dismay at how people attempted to give meaning to the syndrome as some sort of rule... when it was always very clearly only there to protect models. BLACK BLŒ FLY
It say doubles the shots. Imo they should have clearly explain how RF works. I don’t exploit rules and it does seem confusing. Jolemai
It say doubles the shots. This is where you are going wrong as it doesn't just say that: The Bolter Discipline rule is "Instead of following the normal rules for Rapid Fire weapons, models in this unit firing Rapid Fire bolt weapons make double the number of attacks if any of the following apply: <Snip> A boltgun has one attack. Instead of rapid fire (which is just a qualification for a weapon to use this rule), you use Bolter Discipline instead, and that is outlined as per the bullet points. wildweasel
The crucial word in the rule being "any". It doesn't matter how many of those conditions a model meets - as soon as it's met one it's satisfied the need to meet any of them and the doubling of attacks occurs.
