[2000pts, modular] Finally put together my full GSC list

Recommended Posts

After some experiements I believe I've finally arrived at a point where I can say: This is the list I'm going to build.

The lists are for matched play with a focus on objectives, but a bit more laid back than competetive.

When building the following lists, I imposed certain restrictions/constraints:

  • I already play astra militarum, so no units which also appear in the astra militarum codex.
  • Since I'm not playing tyranids, no tyranid units either.
  • 3x 500pts and 2x 250 pts
  • the 500 pts lists must be battleforged/usable on their own
  • combinations of the army lists must be battleforged/legal

While this makes list building much harder, it gives me various lists to use from 500 up to 2000 points.

List A is a core with bodies and some AT.

List B is a core with vehicles and some meelee punch in the form of acolytes.

List C is a brick of abberrants w/hammers to be sent against whatever needs a good whooping.

List D & E provide different forms of utility.

List A & B are actually variations of the lists I posted over in http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354212-how-to-build-a-gsc-army-crafting-a-beginners-guide/

The above lists can be combined in various ways:

  • At 500pts, I'd pick one of A,B,C.
  • At 750 I'd add one of D or E.
  • At 1000pts one of AB or AC or BC.
  • At 1250 I'd add one of D or E.
  • At 1500 ABC or ABDE or ACDE or BCDE.
  • At 1750 ABCE or ABCD.
  • At 2000 all five lists.

Warlord traits:

  • if the patriarch or primus is in: biomorph adaption
  • if the abominant is in (and the patriarch isn't): bio alchemist
  • if only the jackal alphus is in: one of the defensive traits.

Psychic powers:

  • patriarch: (smite), masshypnosis & mental onslaught
  • magus: (smite), might from beyond, mind control

Relics:

  • depending on characters used, I'll pay 1 or 3 cp for the 'more relics' stratagem
  • Abominant: will get the elixir
  • Patriarch: will get the amulet
  • I'm not sure whether the magus needs the crouchling.
  • Sanctus gets the rifle if there's still relics left to hand out
  • I've considered giving the relic pistol to the Clamavus/Nexos just for fun, but it looks like I've ran out of relics to hand out

So, before I completely commit to this set of lists:

I know that

  • 5x acolyte squads tend to die like flies
  • jackals can't use the demo charge stratagem when built this way
  • list B only presents 2 targets to the enemy (when the third squad and magus ambush)
  • the abominant is not as good as other HQs and that a biophagus is more effective when there's multiple units to buff.
  • a competetive list would use more infantry
  • I could use the vigilus detachment to get more warlord traits

Can anyone spot a glaring weakness in the lists?

Other constructive comments and critique are very welcome too.

edit:

added warlord traits, psychic powers and relics
