Red Corsairs CP shenanigans

Hi all,

 

I’ve had to take my eye off 40k for a bit due to life, so just catching up on the tactical ramifications of Vigilus/updated Codex. So sorry/not sorry if this is covered elsewhere...a quick search was no bueno.

 

The Red Corsairs CT says that a detachment that has 3x CSM Squads gets +3CP.

 

So....that means a Battalion w/ 3x CSM gets you 8CP?

 

...and thus 2x Battalions puts you at a juicy 9CP?

(3 base + Batt 5+3 + Batt 5+3 =19)

 

How would that work with a Brigade, just +3CP I guess putting you at 15CP total?

Not sure, but remember you are throwing away 2 detachments just to CP farm. One would be enough, then you have your CP battery, your main and your LOW. Problem for me with the battery is it is locked at red corsairs. This should have been a generalist detachment for everyone in CSM faction to use.

Red corsairs netting you 3cp for a brigade but 6 cp for 2 battalions - and the fact that each detachment can only be 1 specialist detachment - are 2 additional things pushing us away from brigades and towards double battalions.

 

I can’t believe that was intentional in their design.

Losing VotLW hurts quite a bit, so that kinda sorta maybe balances things out.

 

Considering it’s Advance + Charge + the extra CP, that’s really not a bad combo at all. If only I played more assault-y CSM!
