Love the warp ghosts and love the contrast paints and that poor blood angel why they do that too him keep up the great work can’t wait to see where that goes and can’t wait to see the stern guard finished. Thanks for the advice on bits it was really appreciated

I Wrapped up my mini side project last night on the Warp Ghosts Kill Team. I may add a few more models, but as of now I'm very happy with the variety and how they came out. A lot of the guys in my local gaming circle are encouraging me to transform this into a full army, so I am strongly considering it. Considering my main project is rebuilding a Crimson Fists army that I can be proud of, I am not sure if I want to take on another full army project. It was really nice to change the pace up though, and I really enjoyed working with the new contrast paints.

I will be back on the Crimson Fists tomorrow evening. Wednesday is game night, and my Crimson Fists and I have a date with some Orks tonight.

Here is the finished product. I did not get to set them up in my photo booth for their close up, but there is pretty good lighting at my painting table, so the pics aren't too bad. I ended up changing the red on the plasma to more a of a pinkish color. Since these guys are supposed to look like they are made of raw warp energy, I wanted the special weapons to appear the same. I envisioned them as having their special weapons blessed by the Chaos Gods, so I went with purpleish pink. The eyes, and eye lenses are glowing to appear like hot fire or lava. Same with the Berzerker Champion's Axe.

Thanks, I am glad that I could be of help to you. I should be wrapping them up this weekend, and will definitely post some finished pics when I do so. I have 3 more to do after this, then I am going to get started on some more Termies.

Awesome! Fast army to paint too I recon.

It wasn't too bad at all. The eyes and glowing effects on the plasma were pretty quick and easy too. The longest part of it was doing the Ax and the Hexwraith Flame in the eyes on the bases. Other than that, most of this model was pretty quick and easy... The only downside is if you make any mistakes, it's pretty difficult to correct since these are primarily washes and contrast models, it's hard to go back and cover it up to correct it.

The "ghosts" look intimidating as hell. Excellent work.

Thank you sir, thanks again for coming by and checking out the work. I really appreciate it!

I was FINALLY able to sit back down and work on my Vets again. Tomorrow(Sunday)is going to be dedicated to a full day of painting to hopefully have these completed.

The bases are done except for the beveled edges need painted. I was able to finish up the gold, do all of the bone areas, and get the special issue ammo and spent shell casings completed. The updated pics are below:

With the 2v2 team game looming on July 20th, and another vacation on the horizon, I really need to kick it into high gear if I want my list done as per our agreement. I think I mentioned this before, but the game will be 2000 pts per player, my partner is playing Dark Angels, I am playing Crimson Fists(obviously)and our opponent will have Iron Warriors allied with Alpha Legion. We originally had a Death Guard player from our local gaming group, but he said he would not be able to paint his models in time, so he dropped and we added our Iron Warriors player in his place. We are shooting for a very narrative themed game and are planning on streaming it and uploading the video to YouTube. I will make sure to post the link here for any of those that are interested.

Is that an Ork jaw mounted under the bolt rifle muzzle, as a trophy? I approve.

Indeed it is sir. I tried to give them all a trophy, or some Ork skulls on their bases. I really feel like it adds to the flavor of the models. I am primarily going to use these to pad my Kill Team, so I am spending a little bit of extra time with them. Really glad you guys are liking how they're coming out.

It has been a lot longer than I would have liked, but I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel on these. I have spent a little more time on them than I usually do for a standard unit, but, I am really pleased with how they are coming out. One more solid painting session and these Vets should be ready to slaughter the enemies of the Imperium wherever they encounter them.   The light is at the end of the tunnel and for once it doesn't look like a freight train.

I am thinking about weathering their army to give them a more gritty feel. I have kind of envisioned that most of the Veterans of Rynn and the Chapters battle to survive have been promoted to specialists units since the Primaris have come to give the Fists and many other Chapters much needed reinforcements. Considering everything these Vets have no doubt been through, I really want them to look the part. I just don't know if I want to spend that much more time on each. What do you all think? Feedback and comments would be MUCH appreciate here. I really had hoped to have gotten these done at least a week ago, but unfortunately fate has aligned itself against me as of late it seems. :wink.:

After I complete these I will obviously post a finished product, and more than likely move on to the remaining 3 members of the Kill Team/squad. I might start on the Predator or the Venerable Dreadnought that have been collecting dust on my shelf for quite some time. It will be nice to switch gears and work on a larger model for a bit, but I have not decided as of yet.

I am leaving town for another vacation on June 28th this time to the coast of South Carolina, so I will not be painting or posting for about a week or so during that period. I am taking some of my painting stuff in case there is a rainy day or two, but I am hoping I will be soaking up the rays, checking out the beach babes, and consuming a lot of adult beverages. :woot:

Here is the progress I have made over the last few days:

Love the ork head on the Bolter and the vets are coming along great the detail you have gotten is amazing keep up the great work and enjoy the beach. My suggestion is start work on the pred switch it up the vets looks amazing I would start on a vehicle for them

Well, it took a lot longer than I wanted it to between project bouncing, my hectic schedule, and now being on vacation again, but, the first three Sternguard Vets are FINALLY done. :smile.:

I opted not to wear or damage their armor as none of the other models in my Crimson Fists force are, so I didn't want to deviate too much from the rest of the main army. These are primarily going to be used for Kill Team, but, I am sure once the other 4 are done, they'll make it into a standard 40K game or two.

I'm going to switch gears for next couple of projects, and do a Pred, then another squad of Intercessors. I have to get them both done for our big game coming up at the end of the month.

Here are the finished vets in all of their splendor. I don't feel that the lighting was that good today when I took them for some reason, but I think they turned out okay. I hope you all enjoy them. Hopefully my next couple of projects won't take as long as this one. I might be able to update the blog again on Monday/Tuesday of this coming week, if not, the net update won't be until July 7th or so as we are back on vacation. As I posted above, this time we are on the beautiful coast of South Carolina instead of Virginia.

Edit: I didn't realize until I posted these and got a better look at the blown up pictures, that I forgot to paint the service studs on each of the heads... :wallbash: Unfortunately my Paints are 300 miles to the North, so even though this is driving me absolutely bat $&*t crazy, I can't fix it until I get back home.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm finally back from a much enjoyed family beach vacation, and should be posting some more stuff tomorrow morning. Thanks for all of those that continue to follow and continue to comment. It helps keep me going and focused.

I had started on my tri Lascannon Predator before leaving, and I have gotten the first series of armor highlights done, but I did not get pics as of yet. The Fists may get put on hold for a brief period of time. I picked up two commissions while I was out of town. One was for an Eisenhorn model "Parade Ready" paint job, and the other was for a small Deathwatch force that needs to be "Table Ready". I intend on starting the Deathwatch assembly tonight. The gentleman that employed me for these gave me the kits he wants done, and has given me a lot of liberty to choose the Chapters, etc, so I am excited to get started on these. I have bought numerous Deathwatch kits from Shapeways, so I have a lot more options than the standard GW kits. I am more than likely going to use Contrasts as a base for these, and will still dry brush and highlight them. But given he just wants these to be "Table Ready" I am not going to spend a ton of time. I am not going to rush them though.

The Eisenhorn model is going to be an early August paint job. The gentleman who employed me is waiting on his work bonus at the beginning of August to remit the majority of payment.

I hope everyone enjoys the updates to these commissions as I should still be posting them daily.

Edit: I decided to update my blog to encompass all of my work. Those of you that have enjoyed the fact that the Crimson Fists were central to this, shouldn't worry, they will still be my main focus. I wanted to share everything and not feel so guilty for neglecting the Fists or posting different projects other than Fists.

I saw those Guys yesterday in the Kill Team Thread and I really love them. My first White Dwarf back in 1998 or 99 described the Crimson Fists, the Fall of Backlanding and subsequent Waron Rhynns World and I was hooked on 40k. Since then I have allways had a soft Spot for Crimson Fists. You do them more than Justice, excellent Work!

Thank you, that means a lot to me. Getting feedback even if it is negative has helped me keep this going and stayed focused on hobbying in general.

I was drawn in to the classic picture of the Corvus armor clad Fists preparing for what appears to be a final stand. See below: Absolutely love that drawing, and have had a soft spot for all of the renditions since.

Just wanted to pop in and say the bases on those ghost marines are EPIC. Love them.

Thank you, I kind of imagined them as rising from the raw ethereal warp skulls of their victims in tow.

As far as commission progress is concerned, I was able to get some building for the Deathwatch commission done last night. I really enjoyed it. I forgot how much fun it was to have marines from multiple chapters in every squad.. I tried to build and arm them based off of the style of fighting that their parent Chapter practices, and really got into it. I'm going to have to do some of my own when I done with these I think.

There is a Scythes of the Emperor Marine with Power Sword and Boltgun. Perfectly armed for killing bugs. An Imperial Fist, Excoriator, and Crimson Fists armed with Frag Cannons and an Infernus Heavy Bolter. Everyone knows the Sons of Dorn make the best Heavy Weapons Specialists. :D A Dark Hunter on a Bike armed with a double headed Ax. For those of you that don't know, Dark Hunters are a White Scars successor, and I have a very large army of them fully painted. Right at 3500 pts worth as a matter of fact. The headless wonder in the background will be a Flesh Tearer with a Heavy Thunder Hammer, I just need some of the bits I ordered, and a buddy of mine owes me to complete him. A Blood Raven with a Power Maul and a Bolter. A sergeant from the Mortifactors armed with a Xenophase blade and a Combi-Plasma. If anyone has never read up on them, they are probably the epitome of Grim and Dark in the 41st Millenium. I may do a Kill Team of them eventually. And last but not least, an Exorcist with a Thunder Hammer and Combi-Grav.

Tonight I am going to add an Iron Snake marine. I am not sure what I am going to arm him with as of yet, but I am thinking a Storm Shield and Melee weapon of some type. And I need to build another Sergeant. I am not sure what Chapter he is going to be from, nor what I am going to arm him with. I need to look through my collection of shoulder pads again. I am then going to start on the Primaris contingent for this small force.

I have a test model that I have begun painting mainly with contrast, that I am going to try and finish up by weak's end.

Fortunately my good buddy was able to meet me yesterday afternoon when I left the office to give me those bits. So, I got 6 more Deathwatch marines built, and should be able to start painting them by week's end. :D A BIG thanks to him for that.

I finished up the "headless wonder" and he is now whole. I thought about actually naming him before I pass the completed models back to the gentleman I am working on these for, but I think "headless wonder from the Flesh Tearers Chapter" has a nice ring to it.

The 2nd Sergeant is on the far right with a power fist and a Storm Bolter, he is a Son of Medusa. He was kind of inspired by the pic of Deathwatch Captain Mathias I found while trolling Pinterest yesterday. I wasn't even looking for aretwork, but for some reason it really stuck out to me. I don't know if it's the face of concern pictured, or the dynamic background, but this art really gives Captain Mathias a look of humanity. It's now my Desktop on my office Surface Pro now.

Then we have an Exorcist with a Combi-Grav and a Thunder Hammer. I'm really excited to paint this model. I decided to remove his helmet and give him a bare head. I am going to paint his skin in a bluish hue, and his hair either jet black, or a white. Then I am going to make his eyes kind of have a purplish pink glowing look. For those of you that don't know, Exorcists are possessed with a Daemon before initiation, then the Daemon is exorcised. If they survive the process they become a full fledged brother. In the stories I have read, they give off a different and weird Psychic energy, and have a different appearance and demeanor. So, I hope to capture that.

Laslty, I included a Iron Snake with a Storm Shield and Thunder Hammer. I really wish Deathwatch had access to Power spears like regular codex marines as this would have presented a really good modding opportunity.

I was able to get two Primaris Intercessors done as well. I still need to complete the Intercessor Sergeant that I started on, then I am going to add some Reavers and possibly a Hellblaster or two to round out the squad. That will be it for the squads he wanted, and that we agreed upon. Then I am going to work on the HQs. I have a lot of heavy conversion ideas for these, so I am looking forward to starting on them.

The Intercessor on the right is from the Fire Lords, and the Intercessor on the left is from the Storm Wardens chapter. I am going to continue to tap into my Deathwatch shoulder pad collection I have from the "Pop Goes the Monkey" store. I ordered a lot of obscure pads a long time ago, as I was planning a Deathwatch army of my own when their Codex first released. If not one has ever been on his Shapeways site, I HIGHLY recommend it. I am thoroughly enjoying kit bashing the Intercessors and making some really dynamic poses. The Sergeant I am making for this squad has some pretty hefty converting to him, so I am excited to get him finished.

I really like where your deathwatch and blog is going. What other primaris units would you add if you did your own deathwatch like interceptors or aggressor? How many frag cannons have you built they are always some of my fav weapons for the deathwatch they are so good. Your fist are coming great as well cant wait to see where this goes I vote for more bikes someday to see you paint bikes are such amazing models and your conversions look great !!!!! Ill keep reading and keep up the great work

Thank you. I think I am going to add another biker or two as I was given a Ravenwing Kit, an Intercessor Kit, Reiver Kit, Hellblaster Kit, and 15 standard Veterans and their kits to throw this army together for him. I have some bits of my own that I am using as well, as I have moutains of them. Once I complete this commission and have more time for a Deathwatch project, I am definitely going to do one.

So, for those of you that have read my blog know that Wenesday is generally my gaming night at the local store. We got some great Kill Team games in last night, and I got to use the Warp Ghosts I painted up for the first time. It was a blast. They performed pretty well, but I do wish Chaos had some better options for Heavy Weapons. It pains me that I have those beautiful new Havoc boxes and I can't use them.  :(

Anyways...I was able to get a few more Primaris thrown together, including the Primaris Apothecary. This was my first time building one of them, but I have always loved the mode. I cannot wait to paint him. I am going to do some swapping around with some heads later this evening, to see if I want to stick with the bare head in the box, but to me this model is pretty much perfect without messing with him much. I ended up making him a Howling Griffon

The Intercessor Sergeant was probably the most difficult. The right arm was heavily trimmed and converted from the right handed pistol arm that has the Bolt Rifle hanging from it. I wish I had taken some before an after pictures, but I was tired and simply forgot unfortunately. I really like the pose and feel like he has a lot of flavor. Chainswords just have menacing feel to me too, and I don't picture these boys getting into too much melee. But if they do he should be able to hold his own. He is from the Marines Errant.

The Reiver took a bit of converting too, but not as extensive as the Sergeant. He's pretty simple, but I feel as though he has a dynamic enough pose. I made him a Death Spectre. Which is another REALLY cool chapter if any of you have not read up on them.

Tonight, I am going to finish up the Primaris squad, and should be able to finally start painting. :)

I was able to start painting on the mini Deathwatch commission I am working on last night. All of the base colors shown except for the metallics and minor highlights are all Contrast. I went a little too heavy on the black with it, so I am going to have to adjust that a bit going forward. I need to paint the holsters, bags, bolter rounds, and a few other minor detail areas, add the weathering and scarring to his armor, then I am going to start on his base. i should be wrapping him up tonight, and then I am going to start working on them on a squad level. I didn't spend as much time as I normally do, as that was the agreement, but hopefully these look solid on the table and my client is happy with them.

The best part about all of it is the first model happens to be a veteran from the Crimson Fists. I don't know what you guys think, but the sons of Dorn sure do look good in black.

I still have some more heavy weapon vets to build that the bits finally arrived in the mail for, but I am excited to get back to painting.

The deathwatch look great can’t wait to see where you go with them. The eyes on that helmet feel like they are looking into your soul to kill you. All your work looks fantastic keep up the great work and can’t wait to see how the biker turns out

The Crimson Fist is beautifully painted.

Thanks Bjorn, thanks for stopping back by!

I really appreciate that. I kind of pictured them stalking through a Space Hulk, or hunting through a Genestealer hive an it being dingy and dark, thus creating the glow.

So, I was able to finish up the test model, and I was quite pleased how he came out. Minus going a bit heavy on the Contrast paint, I think he looks really solid. My favorite part about this model is probably the fact that he is a Crimson Fist, how the fuel tank turned out, and the weathering/glow on the flamer igniter. Really looking forward to knocking out the rest of the squad and continuing to paint these.

I ended up starting on the Primaris Apothecary model because I have never painted one of these, and I was really excited about ti after building him. To me, it's by far one of the top top models GW has done in the Primaris range. I do wish they had a little bit more Melee ability like they've had in the past, but from an aesthetics point, I really don't see how it could get any better.

Last night I mainly focused on getting his base completed. I still have a few things I want to add to it, and I need to paint the beveled edge, but I am happy with it thus far. As usual any time there is a dead space marine to be painted, he turns into a Blood Angel. I have to keep that rivalry with my friend going some how... Hah.

I am going to try and wrap this model up this week, and then start on rest of the first Veteran squad.

The dead Death Company Marine, and the Tau skulls surrounding him, makes an AWESOME-looking base. Hopefully, the veteran you're making the base for, will avenge the death of this Son of Sanguinius.
