Dark Angel's rules/strategems/units collection

While listening to a pod cast about Dark Angel's lists, they began to talk about a strategem I hadn't heard of. (Let's you retreat from combat using full movement?) And it got me to thinking about all of the FW units and other stuff that I usually ignore on battlescribe and I realized I have no idea on where to start learning about these miscellaneous rules/units/faqs.

I've played DA quite a while, and I've usually done a decent job of staying on top of new rules and etc. But I need a little help. I hope, someone can point me to a thread that has all of the rules, units, strategems, expansions, faqs that are available to the DA. A quick search didn't turn anything up, but maybe there's something out there? If not, perhaps this could be a good place to cache an exhaustive list for other players looking to delve into the Rock.

The stratagem you are talking about is from the "Vigilus Defiant" Book. It's usable if you invest 1 cp for the Ravenwing special detechment.

Special detechment are bought with cp and give certain units additional keywords. Those units are able to use the stratagems belonging to the special detechment. Besides that it gives you the option to use a new relic (Monster Slayer of Caliban) and a new warlord trait.

For the actual sources for everything I'd say the full list for DA in 8th would be:

Index Imperium 1

DA Codex

Forge World Astartes Index

Vigilus Defiant

Vigilus Ablaze

Chapter Approved 2019

Ah yes, the joy of 8E, where the simplified rules mean you don't have to carry as much books with rules like in 7E. :whistling:

Most of those books aren't required at all.

Will you want the all of these books, sure.

But there is very little reason to carry them all with you.

  • Codex - Likely the only required book on this list along with the short copy of the basic rules.
  • Index - now that we have the codex, this is only required for a few upgrade options.  Have your list written ahead of time and a photocopy of the weapon stats if they aren't in the codex and you can easily leave this behind.
  • FW Astartes Index - only required if you are using items from this book.  Again photocopy is your friend.  Leave the book at home.
  • Vigilus Defiant / Ablaze - Personally I like the missions and battle zones in these, so I take them.  But if I was only using it for the 1 DA formation... you guessed it... photocopy.
  • Chapter Approved (all years) - really only required for the points updates.  If you write your lists ahead of time, you can leave this one at home.

That said you are more than welcome to create an imperial soup army that includes a smidgen of everything with the imperial keyword.

But then accept the fact that it is your list choices that are causing you to carry all of those books and not GW's fault.

I make a cheat sheet binder for my army for when I go to tournaments. Inside it I have:

Several copies of my army list

All photocopied datasheets used in my army

All photocoped special rules used in my army

Photocopy of the Deployment Maps

ITC score sheets and Missions

I use the cards for my stratagems and only get the cards out that i know I'm going to use.

I take my rulebook and Codex with me but never really have the need to get them out, they are there just in case. I will look up the FAQ on my phone if I have to as they are easy to find.

Like ValorousHeart has said, photocopy is your friend and doing something like this makes focusing on the game so easy.
