my guard colour scheme...years in the making!

Recommended Posts

I rotate through an assortment of models when i get bored painting something...Currently i'm taking a break from the yellow imperial fists sitting on my desk so my guard scheme was the next thing on the problem shelf ...

So after years of having my guard stuff sitting on shelves slighty painted in test schemes :dry.:

i have at last settled on a fast and sorta effective scheme for my troops....i won't live the lie anymore of thinking i can do a guard Astra Militarum force that's complex in colour and golden demon quality :laugh.: (i'll save that idea for Killteam  )

anyways here's model number one-

his base isn't finished of course but this scheme is simple ,nice to look at on the table ...and fast :laugh.:

Zandri dust fatigues, black webbing, leadbelcher armor and either black weapon casings or straight gun metal...stocks may be wood...

still tossing up the idea of a red stripe on helmets...?...

anyways...i'm super stoked i have actually decided on a scheme for my Guard...yay :woot:

Cheers, Mithril

Worth the wait :P The scheme is very nice, works well so you're ready for the army now ;) I think a red stripe on the helmet would look good, or white but that's a lot of stripes so I'd recommend painting up a squad or two first and seeing how you feel. Maybe you won't want it, or figure it''d be too much extra work :P

Nice try mithril...

However I will accept nothingless than this

:P

Please report to the commissariat for summary execution :tu:

Not bad. As for red stripes on a helmet, IIRC, the Imperium tends to use that to distinguish officers and/or non-commissioned officers from the rank-and-file, so feel free to use both striped and un-striped helmets in your army.

The only official GW background on the use of helmet striping that I'm aware of is of Cadian recruits having a white stripe on their helmet - so I'm not certain where Bjorn's information is from.

That said, they are your army and you can stripe (or not stripe) as you wish.

When I get home, I'll post a picture of my own helmet-striped penal troops - that may give you an indication as to whether you like the look or not without having to make another test model.

Haha duz... as nice as it was...I didn’t end up liking that scheme...as mentioned in my first post “a shelf full of test models”... stay off the execution for just a short time...

Hrmm... I will stay for now I guess, but I better see some painted squads pronto otherwise I won't be stayed for long!

The commissariat is well aware of your wandering tendencies :ph34r.:

Hey, test models = veteran squads IMO ... they are (or at least used to be in the old fluff) squads made up of the survivors of various units. That's my story and I'm sticking to it anyway in my own test model paintings so feel free to do the same :)

thanks for the feedback and pics,

@Dr_Rumi ..your penal guys sure do workout :biggrin.:

I Finished the work up on 2nd Platoon's colours* (1st Platoon is Zandri Fatigues and 2nd Platoon is Deathworld Forest...the camo on all my vehicles will tie these together:wink: )

2nd Platoon's colours -

i decided i will do a red stripe down the middle of their helms..but if they're wearing a beret..it will be red :cool.:

cheers, Mithril

*hopefully this stops me getting shot by duz_ ...at least for now :ermm:

They look great.  I personally prefer the greater contrast of light fatigues and dark armour of first platoon, but they are both good.

thanks for the feedback and pics,

@Dr_Rumi ..your penal guys sure do workout :biggrin.:

Yeah, those catachan plastics - those arms are too big for marines. :)

Thanks Jud,

I hope to post up more or duz_ will hunt me down :unsure.: he knows my penchant for chasing butterflies when it comes to painting models...:blush.:

I worked out the scheme for all my tanks vehicles and aircraft today ,i'm basing it roughly on the Caunter scheme from early WWII Desert/Nth Africa (see pic below)

Its not the original colours but for my army i'm using a colour base of - Zandri dust, Thunderhawk Blue and DeathWorld forest....

if i don't get hassled putting my son to bed tonight i may get some time to throw some base coats down on a AM Vehicle of some undisclosed type tonight

(Caunter scheme)

i'm trying to add a little bit of WWII flavour to the army...

Cheers, Mithril

got a lot of paint down on my Valk! just trying to do a WWII scheme of light blue underbelly and camo on top(in my 3 main colours) only this so far but a lot's been done!..still lots to do though :laugh.:

Looks good, but I'm not sure about the red. Would it be possible to get a photo from the front?

I'll take a pic this weekend and post up with hopefully some more completed shots

i chose the red as a spot colour like on WWII fighter nose cones

Maybe i'll shark teeth the side of it :laugh.:

Mithril

The number of projects I've wanted to do that on and not pulled the trigger

Do it!

You know, now you mention it i reckon it will absolutely suit my Valk in it's intended scheme   i'm sure others have done it before....scoots off to Google :laugh.: ...
