A crazy idea involving 4 land raiders and some wolves

Recommended Posts

A friend and I were talking about the new primaris vehicle and how we didnt think transport battle tanks work and they should keep them separate. It ultimately led to the Land Raider, the ultimate transport battle tank and I got to thinking. I used to run 4 of the things back in 5th edition because they were so comically large and Black Templars used to be able to take crusaders are dedicated transports. But this got me to thinking, how well would a 4 land raider (2 regular, 2 crusaders) army actually work. Naturally I tried it with Templars because the best thing to shove in crusaders used to be crusader squads, but then I got to thinking. What if I make the army a Space Wolves list.

4x 8man Grey hunter squads packed with plasma guns shoved in the crusaders

A wolf lord and priest in one of the regular raiders, and a runepriest with a jump pack

Wouldn't have a lot of CP but it would be one hell of a mobile castle. I know it wouldn't win any competition but it may be strange enough just to throw some opponents off their game

Totally meta dependent I think, lots of players build to wail on knights and they have an invul. That said your totally right in that it’ll throw some people off.

If you have the models go for it and report back!

I agree with Petey. I think sadly because everyone is packed for knights, land raiders may struggle. That said 64 wounds of t8 is nothing to sneeze at either. I think you are gunna want to make sure to bring a priest for the-1 to hit, but another interesting choice might be an iron priest or 2 to keep those raiders up and running.

I am curious to here your results as well

maybe you could squeeze in another HQ, split the 4x8 up into 6x5 (maybe plus wgpls), and get the extra command points from the second battalion?

That could actually be a good idea, I'll have to play with the points

+1 for an Iron Priest and also for dual Battalion.

You have 8 lascannons, 2 multimeltas and some plasma for armour-busting, all of which can fire on the move with no penalty if needed. Your Hunters give you plenty of melee attacks, hitting on a 2+ in the first round. Hurricane bolters, assault cannons and regular bolters should help to clear hordes.

The biggest risk I can see is your LRs getting bogged down in melee which will seriously dent your shooting. If you can mitigate that, you could have some fun with that list.
