Ultramarines vs Admech w. Castellan

Tomorrow I’ll be playing a game versus Admech with a Castellan. Here’s the army list I’m planning to bring:

What do you think about my list? I know my opponent will probably have some Onager Dune Crawlers with neutron lasers which will be hard for me to shut down.

How do you handle the Knight?

The Las-Cents will be a priority target, and get pounded quick. Leaving some Plasma on foot and jump pack.

The character killer missile will tank into your Victrix.

I really don't know how we fight knights with a mostly Primaris force.

Can the missiles target the Victrix Guard if they are out of sight? They aren’t characters.

 

I think he's saying that against Knights your Victrix Guard can intercept the character missiles but otherwise how do you plan to compete with Knight lists...?

 

When I look at the list it's super similar to mine. Except I have given up on Guilliman because I don't play him enough, and instead I have two T8 vehicles to help with the ugly stuff.... However your list has stuff I wish I could fit. You have the Plasma Inceptors and Helblasters. Also I have one big 10 man squad of Inceptors to take advantage of Indomitus Vets. (Though I think it might be very ineffective at times.)

 

The Castellan is such a vehicle destroyer I don't see a point in taking a single hard target to take it on. Plus Onagers are good, but I don't see a big footprint in your opponent's list with all of these big ticket items. 

 

If it were me, I'd be trying to find a way to put down Cawl (Sniper perhaps) ASAP, and getting in close with Guilliman while his flanks will probably where his Onagers go. This is where I think Inceptors are gold. Just getting in close and overcharging, but even a basic squad with such a small foot print for the AdMech could have you basing his shooty stuff early. He's not going to have much of a screen probably. Vanguard chew up pretty easily.

I agree with your analysis Prot. The Vitrix Guard are there as a bullet sponge for my characters obviously. Hopefully the Inceptors will draw enough return fire after they appear I have a chance to close the distance and their damage along with the Cents can put a significant dent into the Knight. I’ll post a batrep after the game.

We played the Eternal War mission from CA2018 where there are 5 objectives and each turn one or all is worth two victory points as opposed to one. I feel this is balanced mission due to its inherent randomness.

 

My opponent was running a Castellan, a Warden and two Helverin along with the rusty 17. I see Knights as unengaging deploying all my forces in hiding and putting the plasma Inceptors in deep strike reserve.

 

My choice for assassin was the Vindicare and the turbo rounds were very helpful. The Infiltrators were pure gold scoring victory points hidden each turn as well as preventing the Knights from being able to target my characters.

 

The Inceptors, Hellblasters and DevCents wrecked the Castellan and then were all destroyed the following turn each were activated.

 

I had lots of CP which were mostly used for key rerolls for more damage and a fight again for our Primarch taking out the Warden in one turn

 

The Vindicare was huge with the turbo penetrator round inflicting key mortal wounds.

 

The dice gods were with me every turn thank the Emperor.

 

Guilliman got back up again with five wounds without burning a CP - quite clutch.

 

Tiggy was a boss too buffing Guilliman at key moments plus he inflicted heavy mortal wounds into the Castellan - I rolled 11 twice in the game for super smites.

Oh man that sounds crazy. The idea of Guilliman going down, getting up with 5 wounds without a CP is pretty huge. I love Tiggy in support of him. How fast did you go through those Victrix Guard? Lol

 

I know mine disappear pretty quickly now. I can't imagine with a Castellan on the table. Did he ever fire Oathbreaker (strat) guidance missiles at Tiggy or Guilliman?

He tried to take out the assassin with an oath breaker shell but the -2 to hit squashed that attempt. The Vitrix Guard weren’t able to make the final charge alongside their Primarch versus the Knight so I never got to use their Saviour ability sadly but G still got the job done when he fought again... rolled three 6s and two 5s to wound with the rerolls. :D
