Neuralshock
Since I've shifted my play style to mono dex, I've been looking for new and novel ways to utilize the tools we've been granted in our books. One of them is Huntsman, turning all weapons except heavy into character snipers. Unfortunately this means our talonmasters can't brrt through all the guard characters but I feel like there still is some play with it. One thought that crossed my mind was using one of the ravenwing elite characters, namely the champion with plasma talons, for this role. The general strategy is to maneuver into 18 inch range (or closer for glorious melee combat) and pop a character with WotDA. You then bop them on the head and pay 2 cp to jet it back to your screening units Thoughts? You could probably get the same amount of milage out of a captain with jump pack, but maybe that's something to discuss as well Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/356472-novel-uses-for-huntsman-wl-trait/ Share on other sites
Berzul
Well, to make good use if this trait you would need a mobile character. And, someone that can carry plasma or melta, to make sure the hits actually cause an impact. I'd normally think a Jump Pack character with a combi-melta would be the best way to go, but the added 6 inches of range of the plasma talons do sound good. PhilB
A Techmarine on a bike with a full servo harness and Foe Smiter with this Warlord Trait would be pretty funny. ValourousHeart
Real shame that huntsman doesn't include heavy weapons. Seems like this would be a more interesting warlord trait for Sammy than the movement one he has. But a 12 shot sniper assault cannon is just a little OP. Would really outshine the vindicare assassin. MaxB
How about a Terminator character with Foe Smiter? You can drop in to line up the right character and get your full 4 shots from 24". Four AP-1 damage 2 shots are probably more reliable at killing a Company Commander (4W, 5++) than 2 plasma or 1 melta I'd think. Though a bit gimmicky because you're then stuck with a 5" move for the rest of the battle haha Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/356472-novel-uses-for-huntsman-wl-trait/#findComment-5329624 Share on other sites
Neuralshock
I actually don't think for smiter is that good, the str 4 holds it back against t4 and above characters and the AP 1 isn't that good for only 4 shots. You'd get a more reliable bang for your buck with plasma I'd say. That and I think a vindicare makes the for smiter combo sub-optimal Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/356472-novel-uses-for-huntsman-wl-trait/#findComment-5329709 Share on other sites
MaxB
Yep foe smiter just for guard characters. And yes a vindicare is a much better option all round - this is more novel ideas. Using up a warlord trait for this is prob not a good idea if you wanted the most competitive list Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/356472-novel-uses-for-huntsman-wl-trait/#findComment-5330039 Share on other sites
Solrac
I think a jump pack Captain with Thunderhammer + Foe Smiter/Combi-Melta might be better. Plasma is nice but do you really want to risk the overcharge on this character? If you give him a Combi-Melta then at least you can take the -1 to hit Relic to make up the fact that you can't take a Storm Shield. Whatever you choose I think it would also be a great idea to include some Exterminators in case you roll bad on your damage rolls. I think a Techmarine with full Servo harness + Foe Smiter would also be a good idea echoing PhilB's suggestion though you'd have to get real close to do it. noahwood
Unfortunately, the Huntsman warlord trait only works on Rapid Fire and Pistol weapons, so no good for the Ravenwing characters. Combi-plas on a bike character seems like it could be mean though. Let's go whole hog and make him a cataphrachti captain with TH and combi melta or plas, And shroud. That might lose you some friends though haha And Noah, the codex includes assault weapons, battlescribe has a typo if you're pulling from there.
