Librarian dread: blue or red armour?

Hey all,

I want to paint up a liby dread for a coming tourney but I cant find any pictures of any in the codex. Now Librarians have blue power armour as part of their icongraphy so thus the question arose: What colour do I paint the dreadnought's armour? Red or blue?

Cant find any lore anwser either or im reading over it.

What do you guys think?

I'm going to be picking up a Libby Dread soon enough, and I'll be doing it with red body with blue sarcophagus and blue pauldrons, in keeping with my Chapter's color scheme (unlike the standard, my Chapter uses pauldron trim to denote rank/specialism) and I'll be extending that to my Chaplain and Librarian Dreadnoughts. In my opinion, you should do what fits with your Chapter's color scheme.

Games Workshop has never been prescriptive about this. Even the 'Eavy Metal team's official version is just an example of what might be done:

Some combination of red and blue, including all/none of either color, would be common for librarian dreadnoughts of the Blood Angels Chapter. You might, however, decide upon having your librarian dreadnought represent a brother-librarian that has succumbed to the genetic curse of his Chapter (adding black to the color palette), or possibly something else creative.

There's no official scheme as you say, so do what suits you.
My Libby Dread is also going to be pre-dominantly red, with blue accents because red ones GO FASTA!! tie better with the rest of the army.

In terms of the Chapter (BA) structure, Librarian Dreadnoughts belong to the Librarius. So if you really want to, you sure can paint yours wholly Ultramarines blue.

I like this combo personally but then I paint my living Librarians mostly red too. Only the helmet and shoulder pad trim get the blue treatment in my army. That is enough to make them stand out without making them look like interlopers from the Ultramarines.

If in doubt, always remember the First Rule of modelling.

#1 It's your model so paint it how you like. :biggrin.:
