Thousand Sons and the old CSM kit

While it is a shame that the old upgrade kit is gone I think the new kits more than make up for that as it gives the Sons a much more unique look. The upgrade kit was basically just a torso and helmet for the Rubrics, unfortunately it won't be simple to replicate that with the new kits. The helmet is easy of course but the loincloth is part of the legs.

It isn't too hard to green stuff a loincloth though if you fancy a stab at that, so it might depend on what you'd be happy with for the torso?

I presume that, more than anything, you're looking for an excuse to pick up the SC CSM box on the cheap?

Wargames Exclusive makes some 3rd party "Egypt Sons" bits that should be compatible with the old CSM sprues; they'd probably fit the bill if you're okay with 3rd party bits.

As somebody who worked a lot with the old set (metal and resin) I won't miss them too much. Only thing that will be missed is the awesome Aspiring Socrerer. It was a fantastic sculpt and I hope they will bring it back in some way. The pauldrons were nice, but the new ones are way nicer. Out of the 4 helmet designs one was an abominable sculpt, the arms were horrible. The torsi fronts were cool, but super redundant, only 2 different designs. There were 2 extra loincloths that weren't attached to the torsi, they were good looking but impractical because they were almost 3 mm thick. So yeah, for new conversions I'd always buy bits from the new box.

The only thing I don't like about the plastic Rubrics kit is that the "intended" Sorcerer pose is a little limited. It's not a big issue though as there's enough options to spice things up and you can raid the Exalted Sorcerer Box (which is fantastic) for more variety easily :)

Yes! The exalted sorcerer box is one of the best things ever happen to me so far :D

And don't forget the Dark Angels Veterans Kit for extra robbed legs that aren't too extravagant like the exalted robes.
