Do they not want us to Start Collecting CSM?

I think Shadowspear is the new equivalency.

This is the most likely reasoning. That being said, not all armies get a SC box right after their release. I'm sure a new one will appear eventually, probably as Shadowspear stocks begin to dwindle.

The SC boxes usualy take some time. It seems like GW wants you to buy at full price for now, with the "discount bundle" that is the SC box only coming out later.

I do have high hopes for this years Christmas boxes though! My wallet is crying already...

Issue: I've been told by three different GW reps in two different stores, as well as the owner of my FLGS. Shadowspear is not being re-printed.

So if you never got Shadowspear, there's no quick start new Chaos Marines, unless they actually MAKE a Start Collecting! from the Shadowspear box's contents.

Definitely a new version at some point. Can't see anyone choosing to buy the old CSM any more?

The boxes usually seem to have the full option kits rather than set/mono build like Shadowspear CSM, so based on the usual SC Astartes pattern (SM/BA/DW/old Chaos) it'd almost certainly have:

The new 10 man squad

One of the new characters (Hammer lord or MoE mostly likely, probably not DA as he comes with the Disciples?)

One big model (probably stick with the Helbrute, but could be Predator or even Venomcrawler if it was released as a separate kit? Maulerfiend would be nice, but unlikely as it's more expensive)

CUT.

Not impossibile: they already did that with the Stormcast vs Khorne box in AoS.

If Shadowspear is being discontinued, it would be nice to see the unique models being made for individual sale. MoP, 1 or 2 Oblit(s), Venomcrawler, 1 or 2 GP(s). While the having a troop choice seems the way it should be done, you can field a detachment with the 3 Heavy options (Venom Crawlers and 2 Oblits). Alternatively, seeing a couple different options would be nice, but I don't expect it. Start Collecting Chaos Space Marines with the hammer Lord, some CSM, and Havocs would be cool. Then a Start Collecting Chaos Daemonkin with MoP, Possessed, and Greater Possessed (can be potentially enough to make a spearhead).

I really hate that the Shodowspear is being discontinued, but it does give us hope that the special models will at least not go the way of the special DG models from Dark Imperium. GW says they don't want to put rules in the Codex for Models they don't make. The DG models they avoid having to make as independent releases because Dark Imperium is still available. If Shadowspear is discontinued, they will have added 4 units to the Codex which they do not sell, unless they release them independently.

Yeah, no longer selling "Shadowspear" will make things awkward for any of the new choices. And I still don't get why the DI models for DG are not yet released on their own. It's been what, two years now? You want a Lord of Contagion, Malignant Plaguecaster or Noxious Blightbringer without a boxset around the? Not from GW...

Obliterators, Greater Possessed and the Venomcrawler are on one sprue. So they'd have to release a multipart kit of those three units.

Well, given the MoP is on its own sprue, similar to the hammer Lord, I do expect to see that one sold independent. If the 2 Oblits and Venomcrawler are on the same sprue (The GPs and CSMs are on a separate sprue), that would make it easy to throw in a box with the MoP for a Daemonkin Spearhead. Given the price of Swadowspear and the price of Start Collecting boxes, just putting the CSM half in a box and calling it Start Collecting Chaos Daemonkin doesn't seem like a stretch, though that might be too many points, it's not an unfitting model count for Chaos armies. (10 CSM +2 Oblits +2 GP +1 Venom +1 MoP=16 models)

words

That is what they did with the khorne bloodbound from AOS starter (minus 10 blood reavers) sold at around start collecting price.

There is a "real" Bloodbound SC box as well, so having an actual SC CSM box on top of the "Shadowspear half SC" box would not be without precedent.

My personal guess for the SC CSM box: Hammerlord, 10 CSM, 5 Terminators (or 1 Helbrute if they are lazy). I don't expect this before early 2020.

ooph... old Bikers in that set? Seems like an odd/bad choice... New Havocs or Terminators would have been better... Those old Bikers are going to be so out of place with the new plastics.

Theere must be a pile of Chaos bikers boxes in the stocks. Coupling them with 3 boxes of new CSM is a good way of getting rid of them if the price is below 100 £.

Yeah, I guess...

Maybe there would be enough left over parts from all the new CSM models that you could cobble together some decent looking Bikers. If the price is good, might be worth getting anyways.

If you expect to improve anything more that the backpack, head, and maybe one arm you're going to have some work chopping things up. Most, maybe all, new CSM models have the legs and torsos precombined. You'll have to chop up some legs to make them bendy, or maybe you can manage to make them look good standing instead of sitting. Either way, you'll probably have to file down the inner thigh so they'll fit on the bike. I truly despise the Biker kit, but with the new bolter rules, i find myself using more and more. Maybe, just maybe, if they sell enough of the backlog we will get new ones.

Yeah, I know. After my previous post, I went to the store page and looked over the new CSM sprues.... Other than heads and maybe shoulderpads, there is not much in the way of leftover bits sadly... I wouldnt want go cutting too much, the bikes just arent worth the effort.

Still, if the discount is still decent on over buying three squad boxes, it might still be worth getting. Even if I dont use the bikers.

It's the new GW more dynamic pose v CAD conundrum which is giving us lots of new designs but less custom pose options for the CSM and Havocs, and many other new release kits.

As for SC box the prices are variable now so that gives GW some leeway in what they add into it, maybe when the second wave of stand alone CSM kits arrive, Oblits, spider, eta is when we will see a SC box or when Primaris wave 2 turns up to keep CSM moving off the shelves?
