Beatnik cryptek
Ok got my first resin kit today, a tessaract ark. The front shield has some rough bits at the top. I guess I need to carefully clean it up with an xacto. Now the surfaces near the top are kinda rough too, i've never used 'liquid green stuff' before but my modeller sense is tingling and saying it might be the thing to use. Can anyone here tell me about it? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/356759-liquid-green-stuff-fixing-a-rough-resin-kit/ Share on other sites
Brother-Chaplain Kage
Can you get a picture of the area? Liquid GS may not be the best thing for it depending on what the damage is. Arkhanist
Odds are you just need some super-fine sandpaper once you've cleaned up any major roughness with a sharp blade. For that sort of thing I use jewellers files (diamond coated needle files for use on soft metal/plastic basically) to get it roughly smooth, then finish the sanding with micromesh pads, from roughest towards smoothest - they go from 1500 grit to 12000 grit. You'll likely only need the first 3 or 4, the finest ones can get scratches out of transparent plastic. If you've any small crevices or bubble holes, you can fill with something like vallejo plastic putty or perfect plastic putty before sanding - liquid greenstuff is OK for that too, but I can't say I was that impressed with it, and the pot dries out super quick. Obviously larger holes, gaps etc fill with greenstuff or milliput as per usual. You won't be throwing up much dust, but it's never a bad idea to wear a dust mask when sanding resin and wipe down your workspace with a damp cloth when done. Imren
I tried both GW liquid green stuff and Vallejo's white putty and I found that Vallejo's putty shrinks less than GW liquid green stuff. You will have best result with Milliput, its a 2-component epoxy resin that doesn shrink when "dried" (it hardens and cures instead) andalso milliput smoothens quite good with water and sands like a charm, This is my go to filler putty even for small fill jobs.
