okonomiyakimarine
Here is a list and a question, but first let me outline the concept. I want a fluffy list, competitive or friendly is not of importance, because point levels can always be adjusted. That brings me to the Guard of the Crimson King. What I like about it is an infantry (terminator) heavy force that does not need too many transports. But where do we go from here? I do not consider Rapiers or tanks too fluffy for the ROW. So why not add a veteran squad now that the Elite-squads are all open? That already makes the list quite elitist so why not add the two other legion-specific units, the Ammitara and the Khenetai? I do not mean this in a I-do-not-have-to-make-any-new-friends way, but rather if a legion deploys the elite, it might as well be the full spectrum – as long as the setup and delivery for the army makes sense. Consider this as a 'scenario': A hunter-killer-team – Ammitara (nuncio-vox) and a Proteus-based HSS (Exploration Augury Web) with a Master of Signals (nuncio-vox) – act as an anchor for a mainly deep strike force. The Veterans come in first turn guaranteed, disembarkand add another nuncio-vox into the network (if needed). This is when the three units of Sekhmet together with the Praetor may deep strike. The Khenetai together with a psyker (Librarian) may come in later, blast and charge into battle in another Anvillus. So I think from a fluff perspective, but also from the whole delivery mechanism it makes sense. Also it is very specific as a scenario, but I kinda like it. That does not make a very flexible list though. The only things adjustable here are a switch from Master of Signal to Siege Breaker and the weapon load out for the HSS (i have Multi-meltas as an option, Culverins and lascannons, but they are too expensive). Also I'd love to make the HSS-Consul a Psyker, but I do not find the points. Same is true for Anti-Air, a xiphon interceptor would be a nice addition, but I had to take out the Khenetai I guess? The Librarian is Level 2, because I consider it fluffier to have him on a higher level that the MoS (bot level 1 is kinda odd, right?) and from a list building perspective I rather take level 2 once that level 1 twice and safe 10 points of the additional Litanies. What would you change to make it fluffier or more flexible? Looking forward to your thoughts! edit: I actually have several units build already, this is finally happening... +++ TS-GotCK-IV (Warhammer 30,000 - The Horus Heresy) [2,997pts] +++ ++ The Age of Darkness (Legiones Astartes: Age of Darkness Army List) [2,997pts] ++ + HQ + Legion Praetor [267pts]: Arcane Litanies, Cataphractii Terminator Armour, Combi-Weapon, Cult Arcana: Raptora (Telekinesis), Grenade Harness, Mastercraft a Single Weapon, Mastery Level 3, Refractor Field . . Unknown Legionnaire
I like the ... fluff / scenario approach. IMHO, this is how lists should be written. That, or with the mission (to be played) in mind. Happens not often enough. That Battlescribe format is a pain to access, seriously. Onto the list itself ... ... yeah, I know you mentioned you didn't care about the power level, but three units of Raptora Sekhmet will leave you with no one to face off against soon enough. And on the other hand, three units plus your Praetor running Telekinesis is ... hilarious. No one needs that many powers from one of the weakest disciplines. Simple facts: - Force sword on the Praetor ? Why ? - Ammitara are arguably better than sniper scouts, but they're still 'meh'. - Drop the MoS, and swap the HSS to Volkite Culverins. Then attach an Armistos and buy the Vox upgarde for the unit instead, if need be. - The Librarian feels lost and useless in a Thousand Sons list. I'd go for a Primus Medicae with mastery level one instead. Or just regular Apothecaries to attach to you Khenetai and Ammitara Cabals. - Plasma Vets feel superfluous in a list with three units of Plasma Sekhmet. Maybe swap them for Machinekiller Combi Melta Vets. No one needs that many powers from one of the weakest disciplines. what discipline would you pick? afaik all Sekhmet enlisted as Troops have to match the Praetor's? The unit is seen as very strong already, no need to pick "the best", right? I like the ... fluff / scenario approach. IMHO, this is how lists should be written. MoS/SB/Armistos with HSS: I thought there already is plenty of anti-infantry in the list, so missiles with flakk add some Anti-Air and may shoot down lighter armour. Would you argue that the Culverins are needed for MEQ? Heavy Bolters or Rotors would be fluffier, but Ashyx Shells would not be that profitable with the Armistos and Rotors are not allowed by the Consul... I did not bother to make the calculation, but Volkite with Armistos just seem to delete marine squads. Librarian/PM: True. I am considering sending the Khenetai into battle with Apothecary + Chaplain (a Herald would have been nice, but he cannot be warlord with the ROW). But that would mean no IC for the HSS. Plasma/Melta-Vets: True. Same cost, so easy swap. So happy I have them not glued in ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/356767-thousand-sons-3k-infantry-elite-gotck/#findComment-5336959 Share on other sites
Newtoncain
Khenetai Blade Occult Cabal-these are junk. I have 5 and tried to use them. Swords are only AP3, so SV2 armor makes then void. Plus you need a rhino to get them in. Sek Terms, Take 2 CF in each squad and 3 of what ever you want besides PFs. As for combi, Seks have the special ammo for free, so 2 combi meltas are all you need. JUst my 0.02 worth. james71989
Khenetai arent junk, they just need to be ran in max squad to make use of their benefits and use force on them. They do get expensive though at 10 man squads and need a transport Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/356767-thousand-sons-3k-infantry-elite-gotck/#findComment-5338143 Share on other sites
Unknown Legionnaire
Force Sword Praetor: Forgeworld model, wysiwyg, right? The blade on the Praetor could as well represent a Paragon Blade, which would serve him much better. AP 2 at initiative and doesn't need a power (Force) to be cast upon it to be any good. Mogsam
5 Khentai blades in a rhino are junk. But that's not their fault. 10 in a drop pod/land raider with iron arm or warp speed are anything but junk. I'd even run them, if they were junk tbh. rule of cool. I am still considering my options for an IC in the group or an apothecary. Force Sword Praetor: Forgeworld model, wysiwyg, right?
