Difficult subassemblies

Recommended Posts

So I came across this problem while prepping my first ETL entry:

How do you prepare difficult things for subassembly? In this case very thin capes?

I got 2 Exalted Sorceror cloaks to go with my terminators as capes, but they are incredibly thin. Up until now I had only used the Chaos Lord cape for terminators, which are not a problem to put a pin inside, but for these thin ones I am kind of at a loss and I only want to glue them to the model after I have them painted.

Normally I paint arms and Backpacks as subassemblies and just drill a hole, glue in a piece of paper clip and thats that. I can use it to pin it to the finished model later and during painting I can press it to a cork. But these thin things I cant drill in or only in places that will be seen. I thought about attaching them to a cork or stick or something with poster putty but that doesnt stick that well I feel and might fall off. If push comes to shove I can just paint them wearing gloves (I do that anyways because of the airbrush) and varnish as soon as they are done and put them aside then.

If I was wedded to the idea of painting it separately then I'd glue it at the same contact point as it will use later to a piece of old sprue and use superglue sparingly to do so.

Once it's painted you should be able to just snap the join and glue it in the final position.
