CommissarZac
The feudal/knight world of Straun is relatively new to the Imperium. Being only several decades old since its capitulation, its PDF forces are still learning the ropes of their new equipment. Nonetheless they are proud to represent their planet and defend her to the death. I present you the 38th Landsknecht Rifles Colonel Seigfried Johansen leads the men and women of the 38th Landsknecht Rifles in their patrols of Straun, rooting out all the psykers or "Magi" as they are referred to, quelling peasant uprisings and nipping chaos cults in the bud. apologist
Very cool. That's a nice start on the freehand banner too; I think you've caught the shapes and colours well. A little tightening up, by working the background white back over the black sigil will give some sharper tips that would help make it even more striking. Did you try lightly drawing the design on first? That's a safe – if not so brave! – way to work freehand designs like this. It's basically filling in between the lines, then. Looking forward to seeing the force build up. CommissarZac
Thank you so much. And I can face palm for not thinking about drawing it with pencil first. Joe
As an alternative, I would strongly recommend using paper banners instead of the plastic ones. You aren't limited to what you can draw either; as you can draft up a banner digitally and print it off onto appropriate material. That said, you're off to a fantastic start. Hope to see more! MegaVolt87
You could also do multiple dots to plot out the design, then just link them up for freehand designs. An oldie but a goodie. CommissarZac
1st Platoon Command squad Tried my hand at some old english numerals and was quite pleased with the result. I also like the idea of different flag shapes for the different platoons. Throne it feels good to be painting again and brushing the dust off these fingers. WarriorFish
Hopefully you brush the dust off your fingers before you get to the painting ;) I think it'll be worth experimenting with custom banners especially if you want a few, could really give you some variety :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/356821-the-38th-landsknecht-rifles/#findComment-5338187 Share on other sites
CommissarZac
Might be getting a bit ambitious, but so far liking where this mash up for a feudal Leman Russ is coming along Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/356821-the-38th-landsknecht-rifles/#findComment-5339913 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
I think it has potential, but does look quite wide for a Russ? Looks like there's room to bring the tracks in so they're just behind the prow and flush against the tower - would be a fair bit of work but I reckon it'd work a lot better :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/356821-the-38th-landsknecht-rifles/#findComment-5340003 Share on other sites
Thunderforge
That looks so fantastically Jules Verne! I wonder if the Departmento Munitorum can provide this new pattern of Russ to my Praetorians?! :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/356821-the-38th-landsknecht-rifles/#findComment-5340009 Share on other sites
Bjorn Firewalker
Might be getting a bit ambitious, but so far liking where this mash up for a feudal Leman Russ is coming along Is it meant to be an amphibious tank? At least the hull you chose has room for its crew and a decent ammo supply- the too short hull is one problem I have with Games Workshop's model. EDIT: Considering how high the boat's bridge is, you may want to give the tank an unmanned turret, like the M3 T-14 Armata. Just replace the tank commander's hatch with a heavy bolter/flamer turret (the tank commander is actually seated in the hull, and looks out through the heavy bolter/flamer turret's integral sensors), and you can reuse the already too small Leman Russ turret. CommissarZac
@WarriorFish: I agree it is a bit wide but thankfully I did measure it and it is slightly slimmer than a regular Russ with sponsons. I fully intend to pull the tracks in more just where you suggested as well as hack off the bridge to make room for a proper Russ turret. CommissarZac
Took the tracks in a bit and added more of the AoS bits. Adapted the skyhook cannon into a las cannon turret to give the the punch of Russ in a smaller package. Adapted the skyhook cannon into a las cannon turret to give the the punch of Russ in a smaller package. I thought you'd adapt a Space Marine Razorback's twin heavy bolter turret for the forward position. Oh well. What will be the tank's primary weapon? A Leman Russ battle cannon, Vanquisher cannon, Punisher gatling cannon, Executioner plasma cannon, or...? Thunderforge
The tracks have migrated forward half an inch, I think they look better as positioned in the first photo. Otherwise the rear (stern?) pointy big looks too unwieldy. Can I suggest a big steam-ship funnel sticking up through the roof? That domed turret would look great on a chimera hull! It would certainly unify your tanks. :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/356821-the-38th-landsknecht-rifles/#findComment-5340498 Share on other sites

Still I rather like that big rear end as I feel it adds to the steam punk vibe. Thankfully the Arkanaut Frigate comes with a smoke stack and I am torn between adding it or not. CommissarZac
Indeed I have saved the Duradin pilot. Who better than dwarves to man and operate heavy machinery?
