Evil Eye
I have a pot of some stuff known as Brush 'n' Leaf Silver Leaf (also known as Rub 'n' Buff IIRC), an American brand I found in a doll's house shop of all places. It produces a wonderfully lustrous shine, probably one of the nicest silvers I have (not counting super-high-shine things and "silver-coloured" paints like Alclad Aluminiums or Molotow Chrome) and is very nice to work with, requiring no thinning and going exactly where you put it. I was considering trying to airbrush it, but I noticed on the bottle it quite clearly states "NOT FOR SPRAY APPLICATION". The reason I'm asking and not just blindly following the warning is that, being American, there's every chance that it would work perfectly fine through an airbrush but it requires a breathing mask like lacquer paints, and it's marked as such to avoid being sued in the event someone hurts themselves with it. So basically, is it airbrushable but harmful if breathed in or will it straight-up not work through an airbrush? It also says "To thin or clean, use thinners" but doesn't specify what thinners. Any ideas? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/356840-brush-n-leaf-silver-leaf-through-an-airbrush/ Share on other sites
Bung
You should always wear a mask while airbrushing especially metall colors. For airbrushing Rub n Buff i found this in another forum: I've been airbrushing the stuff since 1968 with great results. Fill an old GLASS* paint bottle with lacquer thinner, squeeze in some RubNBuff, and let it sit over night. The next morning you'll have a great metalic ink that adheres to plastic, can be decaled over without a top coat. Be sure to spray outdoors or with a powerful fume hood - you don't want the fumes! No prime needed, no top coat needed, washes right out of the airbrush (unless you use one with plastic innards - in wich case you shouldn't ever used lacquers anyway) - what's not to love!
