Advice for a son of Corax.

Recommended Posts

Considering adding a detachment of the Vlka Fenryka to my army to make up for what the Raven Guard don't do well (melee)

I sort of like the idea of Thunderwolf Cavalry and some Fenrisian Wolves led by Canis Wolfborn.

Are there any compelling reasons to go a different direction?

Thunderwolves took a hit in 8th in terms of efficacy, but they still are pretty fun and.....fluffy. (sorry)

Still, decking them out with SS and melee weapons they make a solid unit. Fen wolves are not the best chaff in the world but are pretty good if there adequate terrain n the board and obviously have good synergy with Canis. It seems like you've got a cool theme in mind and with proper support would be really neat.

That said in purely competitive mode, Wulfen do it better than Thunderwolves across the board.

How are you running your RG? Backfield fire support or infiltrating midboard stuff?

Little of both. Raven Guard Aggressors are still pretty brutal after the SFTS nerf. The free 9" move usually gets them in range to unload on something.

I'm leaning toward a sniper heavy list with 2 Eliminator squads, a scout sniper squad and multiple Vindicares. Taking out HQ units early in the battle is a very Raven Guard thing to do.

Yea a big ball of Stormshields and teeth I figure would allow your RG to do their job unimpeded for a few turns. Bubble wrap being what it is though, I would lean into the S5 and do SS/frost weapon of chainsword to keep cost down and use them to mow chaff. You could even split the fen wolves off depending on matchup to harass small units.

The cavalry option cant go into buildings or reach 2nd floor or above

It is a major weakness a good opponent will exploit

I'm mostly a beer and pretzels player.

And besides, if my opponent keeps their melee units inside buildings or on the second floor to avoid them, haven't they already done their job in taking them out of the fight?

I have enough shooting to deal with camped out units.

I'm also suddenly amused by the idea of dogpiling my wife's BA Smash Captain with 15 Fen Wolves.

The only reliable way I've found to kill him is just drown him in attacks and hope he fails enough saves to drop.

Well, that and its not exactly safe to start wailing on dogs...

i usually kill BA captains with psykers bc the smash captain target (usually leviathan or bjorn) is always near njal. smite and living lightning hurt.

if they dont tie up my focrces i unload leviathan into captains as well (yes all 20 shots are worth it).

sometimes the captain makes it in but the armor of russ shuts him down and he has to survive a bunch of angry dreadnoughts
