Maximus Thane in the Siege of Terra series...

Is there a rule that Black Library writers can't search stuff about Warhammer on the Internet, particularly Lexicanum?

I feel like Haley shouldn't have ever done something as stupid as this. He should have asked his fellow writers about Thane to decide if he was a good fit for the Heresy

Is it unreasonable to hope/want/assume an author with the BL to have at least as much familiarity with the lore that we fraters on the board do? I’m not interested in beating a dead horse, but this seems a reasonable thing to assume doesn’t it?

Can another author retcon it to being two or multiple Thanes? Have the original Thane die in the Scouring

Even if he walks back the tweet and says that actually, these two Maximus Thane's are different individuals, the content of the book and the Company of Imperial Fists known as the Exemplars undercuts the story of how the Fists Exemplar got their name in The Beast Arises.

At this point to tidy it up you need to say one or the other is wrong.

I mean, if it bothers you that much, maybe print some sticky labels of "Oriax Dantalion" and paste them into every mention of Maximus Thane throughout the novel. It's even easier in the ebook - just search & replace all Maximus with Oriax and all Thane with Dantalion, done.

There, solved.

Obviously, this doesn't work quite as smoothly for audio listeners. In that case, I'd recommend preparing for the book's release by practicing self-hypnotism and mentally linking the two names through repetition. Maximus Thane is Oriax Dantalion. Maximum Thane is Oriax Dantalion. If you're really nifty, you can put on a headset and play a recording on infinite loop when you head to bed, and by the time you wake up, the two should be synonymous to you. Lifehacks, right there.
