Crusade progress gallery with all images - https://imgur.com/a/vCgfFpO

I will be uploading all my pictures to the imgur gallery, and also posting here as I go. I'm very excited by the prospect of a Black Tide list (all credit for inspiration to Mordian Glory). I have a tournament in just over two months and I'm going to see how much I can get done by then!

Below is a picture of the Crusade as it currently stands. I don't think the rhino, dread or terminators will make it in the list.

Welcome to the Eternal Crusade brother! You are a very skilled painter and your army looks great. Thanks for posting and sharing with us lot here. Nice use of colours, for instance the greens on your crusaders' power weapons. Good luck with finding the right key to your upcoming list and the motivation to paint your Black Templars. On a spiteful note, I appreciate the fact that I don't see any Primaris units in your Crusade (yet) ;)

Today I secured a victory against an Ork Speed Freaks army (all vehicles/bikes) in a 1k pts game. The mission was Eternal War - Supplies From Above.

I was playing four Crusader squads (1 melee, 3 ranged), a Chaplain (warlord), a Lieutenant, Marshal Law, cenobyte servitors and a Venerable Dreadnought with twin las and flamer/combat weapon.

I held a commanding points lead for the entirety of the game. Being able to spread out and having ObSec units really helped me hold 3/4 of the objective points. My opponent didn't have much in the way of soft infantry, so I sent Marshal Law after their warlord - I lost Marshal Law, but achieved Slay the Warlord.
Eventually I was able to table my opponent and clinch the victory.

I'll try to get some battle pictures next time.

I also worked a bit on Marshal Law today, I expect to have him done tomorrow. Here is a WIP shot of the jump pack.

Managed to paint up five initiates and five neophytes this weekend for some various crusader squads.

Later tonight I'll probably start painting up my Cenobyte Servitors.

I am quite intrigued by the new Repulsor Executioner, maybe after my Black Tide list is done for this tournament in September I can dabble with that a bit. I'm also quite keen on picking up some of the new movement trays, as I think they will help speed up gameplay while using almost 100 marines!

They look great!

Howd you do the robes?

Thanks!

Zandri Dust, then Agrax Earthshade, then Zandri Dust to highlight again

I left their robes darker than on my normal Black Templar models (they are just servitors after all, I figure they would have lesser quality robes). For my marines it's the same process but I add an additional highlight of Ushabti Bone.

Cool I might try that on my next batch of robes. I like experimenting with different Robe colours because I figure theyd have more than one batch of robes being that they walk through Bullets on a daily basis ;)

Also having a darker Robe recipe could be cool to take attention away from the models middle and have the viewer Focus on the outer parts EG arms legs head

Excellent work, your color palette is great - keeping a nice grimdark tone while at the same time keeping a very crisp & clean application. I'm curious to see how your Wargame Exclusive Chaplain turns out in this style.

Thank you very much!

I'm actually procrastinating on the Wargame Exclusive Chaplain, it's an amazing model but I am a bit intimidated by its detail. It will likely be the last character I paint before my tournament in September.

My Crusader suffered a defeat at the hands of Space Wolves tonight! 1200 pts game, Beachhead mission with Dawn of War deployment.

This was also my first game where I played only crusaders and characters!

My opponent had a very melee focused army and I underestimated it, never having played against Space Wolves before. He got the first turn and advanced up the board without significant shooting. I also moved up the table, and I believe this was the beginning of the end. I was able to shoot to moderate effect, but much of his army had storm shields. I also failed three 9" charges, including with Marshal Law.

At the top of the second turn my opponent easily slew Marshal Law with shooting and then charged the vast majority of his forces into my lines, decimating my units in the process. I did get a cheeky heroic intervention in onto some Wulfen, but that proved to also be a mistake (as those models fight when they die).

The rest is history.

I believe the major lesson learned for me here is to be less aggressive against full melee armies. I probably should have advanced my melee squads and spread them out to bubble wrap my shooting units. I would have at least got another turn of shooting and it may have been a closer game.

Also, know thy enemy - the Wulfen were particularly vicious and I would have loved to have shot them off the table.

In other news, I managed to paint up five neophytes - that brings my total models painted this week to eight. I'll be headed out of town for the weekend though (to play some 40k) so no more painting for this week. I started a tally to track my progress:

I also tried out the new movement trays, I'm a bit on the fence about them. I used them for one turn, and then just started pulling them off. Maybe that was because of my casualties, but wanting more granular movement was also a factor.

  • 2 weeks later...

The painting wall! I knew it had to come sometime. It's simply a combination of being out of town quite a bit and some other distractions.

I did manage to finish off five crusaders this week at least.

I think I'm going to shift gears a little bit though. I'm going to completely finish building the rest of the army and batch paint the entire thing at once.

The efficiencies cannot be denied. I'll also be able to get in some 2k point practice games ahead of the tournament with the full list.

It is a more grueling to paint this way, but I am no stranger to this technique. It does mean that the painting updates on this thread will drop off a bit (nobody wants to hear how I just finished my second coat of Zandri Dust).

Thanks for taking the time to read and wish me luck!
